Too much tracking force can create wear and tear on your stylus and records. Not enough, and you may find it skipping out of the groove. The Pro-Ject Measure it E takes the guesswork out of the important process of measuring tracking force. Just lower the tone arm on your turntable so that the stylus rests on the measuring pad, and you'll get a highly accurate readout of how much downward force it's exerting — measured in precise 0.002-gram increments. The gauge comes with a five-gram calibration weight, four batteries, and a protective case.
