Waxleaf privet (Ligustrum japonicum 'Texanum') has long been a favorite choice among varieties of privets, excellent as a hedge, mass planting or in a container. This is a top selection for topiary use, responding well to pruning and shaping, from pyramid to poodle forms, so get your foliage-shaping game on if desired. Displays a profusion of fragrant white blooms in spring. Can also be trained as a tree, perhaps for your patio. As you might have figured out from the name, waxleaf privet has waxy leaves. They're are also thick, round and glossy green above and whitish underneath. Attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies. Drought resistant once established. Grows to 10 ft. to 15 ft. H and 6 ft. to 8 ft. W. Medium water needs. Provide full to part sun. Flowers in spring. Hardy to Zone 7°F/5°F.
