The following table describes t he labels in this screen.
Table 20 S.M.A.R.T I nfo
LABEL DESCRIPTION
I D This is t he ident ification num ber used t o t ag a hard disk att ribute.
This is st andard across all S.M.A.R.T- enabled storage devices. However it depends on t he
st orage vendor which at tr ibutes it will allow S.M.A.R.T t o diagnose.
At tribut e This refers to an att ribute of the hard disk t hat S.M.A.R.T can assess. Attribut es describe
the hard disk ’s physical state, perform ance, w ear-and- t ear, and so on.
Value This is a value t hat corr esponds t o t he Ra w D at a. Com pare t his with the Thr e shold.
S.M.A.R.T com presses t he raw value( s) into a digit from 1 t o 253, where 1 indicat es the
worst scenario while 253 indicat es the best scenario.
The values 100 or 200 usually represent t he m ean or norm al value.
Worst This is t he lowest value at tained by t he hard disk since S.M.A.R.T start ed it s assessm ent of
the hard disk .
Threshold This is the att ribut e’s t hreshold value. I f t he at tribute’s cur rent nor m alized value is less
than or equal t o the t hreshold, t he at tribute has failed. An att ribut e value close to or below
the t hreshold indicat es t he hard drive is no longer reliable.
Type This shows S.M.A.R.T’s assessm ent of t he hard disk.
Old_ age indicat es end- of-product life from old-age ( norm al wearing out ) if the att ribut e
value is less than or equal t o t he t hreshold.
Pr e - fail indicat e im m inent hard drive failure if t he at tribute value is less than or equal t o
the t hreshold.
Note that j ust because an att ribut e is of t he Pre- fail t ype does not m ean your hard dr ive is
ready to fail. I t only m eans t his if t he current norm alized value of t he att ribut e is less t han
or equal to t he t hreshold.
