17.5 Media Server Screens
The m edia server application allows you t o share m edia files with m edia client s.

FTP
Enable FTP You can use FTP to send files to t he NAS or get files from t he NAS. Select this check box
to allow users t o connect t o t he NAS via FTP; otherwise clear t he check box.
Connect ion Lim it Ent er the m axim um num ber of concurrent FTP connections allowed on the NAS in t his
field. See your screen for your m odel’s connection lim it .
I dle Tim eout Ent er the lengt h of tim e t hat an FTP connect ion can be idle before tim ing out . The
tim eout lim it is 300 m inut es.
Port Num ber This is the port num ber used by t he NAS for FTP t raffic.
Enable Anonym ous
FTP Access
Select t his check box t o allow any user to log int o the NAS using ‘FTP’ or ‘anony m ous’
as a usernam e and no password. Any other nam e is considered a usernam e, so m ust be
valid and have a corr esponding correct password.

Select this check box to assign a por t range for FTP clients t o use when downloading
files from t he NAS using passive m ode.
The connection lim it is rest rict ed t o half of t he port num bers wit hin t he range if t his
value is smaller t han t he one configured in t he Conne ct ion Lim it field. For exam ple,
you specified a port range from 1024 to 1029 and configured 10 in t he Conne ct ion
Lim it field. The FTP connect ion lim it will only be 3 (6 port s in the range divided by 2)
because it is t he sm aller value.
St ar ting Port Ent er t he first port num ber in t he range. Choose from 1024 to 65535.
Ending Port Enter t he last port num ber in the range. Choose from 1024 to 65535.

Character Set The NAS uses UTF- 8 ( 8- bit UCS/ Unicode Transform ation Form at) form at for FTP by
default. I f t he NAS’s folders, or file nam es do not display correct ly in your FTP client ,
select t he appropriate language encoding here.
This set ting applies to all FTP client connect ions t o t he NAS. I t does not affect your
Windows/ CI FS connect ions ( it will not corr ect t he charact er display in Window s
Explorer) .
Apply Click this t o save your changes.
Reset Click t his t o rest ore your previously saved set t ings.
