Overview This User Guide provides instructions for setting up your Game Point!. It also includes details about WEP security, advanced settings, and specific information for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux users. If we update information about the Game Point!, we provide the updated information at this Zoom Web site: http://www.zoom.com/techsupport/index.
1 Installing the Game Point! This chapter provides simple instructions for installing the Zoom Game Point! in a home that has wireless networking. First, you plug the Game Point! device into a computer to do a quick setup, and then you plug the device into the Ethernet port of your Xbox Live® or PlayStation®2. It’s fast and easy! 1 Directly connect the Game Point! device to an Ethernetequipped computer that has a Web browser. If your computer is connected to your network, change the connection.

Windows XP, 2000: If you’re running Windows XP or 2000, open up the Control Panel and then double-click Network Connections. Double-click Local Area Connection. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. Select Use the following IP address. Enter an IP address of 10.0.0.100 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.
When a confirmation message appears, click OK to change the operating mode. Another message will appear letting you know that it may take a few moments while the unit resets itself and changes its mode. Click OK. (Once the Game Point! reboots itself, you will be prompted to log into the Web Management Interface again.) 10 11 12 13 14 Click Wireless in the left navigational menu, then click Site Survey. The page that opens lists the wireless networks detected by the Game Point!.
15 16 17 Connect the Game Point! to your Xbox or PlayStation®2. First unplug the Game Point’s power cube from the power strip or wall outlet and disconnect the Game Point’s Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port of the computer you used to configure it. Then connect the Game Point! to the Ethernet port of the gaming device and plug the Game Point’s power cube into a “live” power strip or wall outlet near this gaming device. Confirm that the Game Point! PWR light goes on.
2 Setting Security This chapter explains how to enable security for the Game Point! using WEP. When you first set up your Zoom Game Point!, security is turned off by default. If you are joining a network that has WEP security enabled, you need to set the same security on the Game Point! so you can connect to the network. Setting Up Security Using WEP If you are already logged into the Web Management Interface, begin with step 2. If you have not logged into the Web Management Interface begin with step 1.
b Plug the included power cube into a power strip or wall outlet and then plug its other end into the Power jack on the back of the Game Point!. Important! Only use the power cube shipped with the Game Point!. Other power cubes may damage the device. c Change the TCP/IP Settings on your computer so that it uses static IP addressing and the IP address and subnet mask below. Be sure to make note of what the settings are prior to changing them, since you will need to restore these settings later.
2 From the Game Point! Web Management Interface, click Wireless in the left navigational menu, then click WEP Configuration to open the WEP Configuration page. 3 Use the WEP Mode drop-town list to specify whether you want to use 64-bit manually or automatically, or 128-bit manually or automatically. You must use the same security that is on your network. If you choose the manually option, you will have to enter hexadecimal keys.
! 64-bit automatically – Choose this option if the network you are joining uses 64-bit security and a passphrase (password) to define the hexadecimal keys. When you select this option, the screen changes so you can specify the passphrase. The passphrase can be 1-32 alphanumeric characters, for example, zoom. When complete, click the Save Changes button. All four hexadecimal keys are generated automatically and appear on the screen. (Write down the hexadecimal keys—you may need them later.
! 128-bit automatically – Choose this option if the network you are joining uses 128-bit security and a passphrase (password) to represent the 13 hexadecimal pairs in the key. When you select this option, the screen changes so you can enter the passphrase. The passphrase can be 1-31 characters. Enter the passphrase in the PassPhrase box, then click the Save Changes button. The hexadecimal key generated by the passphrase appears on the screen. (Write down the hexadecimal key—you may need it later.
3 Advanced Options Once your Game Point! is installed and running, you may want to specify some advanced settings for the device. These advanced options are not required and many users may not need or want to use them. However, for those advanced users that do, this chapter provides details about these options and how to apply them. To specify advanced options, you must log into the Game Point!’s Web Management Interface, as explained below.
3 Change the TCP/IP Settings on your computer so that it uses static IP addressing and the IP address and subnet mask below. Be sure to make note of what the settings are prior to changing them, since you will need to restore these settings later. IP Address: 10.0.0.100 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Tip! If you do not know how to access and specify TCP/IP settings on your computer, see Appendix B: Specifying TCP/IP Settings on page 33. 4 Open a Web browser, type 10.0.0.
The following table lists each page that you can access from the Web Management Interface. Each page is described in detail later in this chapter. Menu Item Page Use this Page to... System Password Setting Specify a password to restrict access to the Game Point!’s Web Management Interface. Operation Mode Specify whether to use the Game Point! as client bridge infrastructure or client bridge ad hoc. (Infrastructure is the default.) LAN LAN Settings Specify a new name for the Game Point! device.
Viewing the System Status Page The System Status page opens when you first log into the Web Management Interface. (You can also access it by clicking Tools in the left navigational menu, then clicking Status.) The status page shows you System Status, LAN Status, and Wireless Status. System Status Provides version information about the Game Point!, including the version of firmware currently installed on it.
LAN Status Shows the current settings for your local area network, including the IP address of the Game Point!, subnet mask, configuration, and MAC address of the Game Point!. Using the Password Settings Page Use the Password Settings page to change the password needed to access the Web Management Interface. This is typically done if you want to prohibit other users from logging in to the Game Point!’s interface.
To open the Password Settings page, click System in the left navigational menu, then click Password Settings. To change the password 1 Enter the current password in the Current Password box. (By default, there is not password, so if you are adding a password for the first time, leave this box blank.) 2 Type the password that you now want to use in the New Password box. The password can be up to 12 alphanumeric characters and is not case sensitive.
Using the Operating Mode Page Use the Operating Mode page to specify whether you want to use the Zoom Game Point! as Client Bridge Infrastructure or Client Bridge AdHoc. By default, the Game Point! is set up as Client Bridge Infrastructure. You only need to change this setting if you are using the Game Point! in AdHoc mode. (Please see Appendix C on page 41 to set up a network with multiple Game Points! and gaming devices in AdHoc mode.

Using the LAN Settings Page Use the LAN Settings page if you want to rename the Game Point! device. By default, the Game Point! is set up to use a static IP address (10.0.0.
Using the Wireless Settings Page Use the Wireless Settings page to specify the SSID for the Game Point!. If you need to select a channel for AdHoc mode, you can do so on this page. To open the Wireless Settings page, click Wireless in the left-navigational menu, then click Settings. Channel displays only for AdHoc mode To specify wireless settings The following steps assume that you want to set up a wireless network. 1 Click the Enable Wireless Network check box.
Accessing the WEP Configuration Pages Use these two pages to specify security for your Game Point!. To open these pages, click Wireless in the left-navigational menu, then click WEP Configuration. Details about specifying security are covered in Chapter 2: Setting Security on page 11. Using the Site Survey Page This page is only accessible when the Game Point!’s Operating Mode is set to Client Bridge (Infrastructure).
Using the Configuration Tools Page Use the Configuration Tools page to save the Game Point!’s current configuration to a backup file, to restore the unit to a saved backup file, or to restore it to its factory defaults. To open the Configuration Tools page, click Tools in the left-navigational menu, then click Configuration Tools. To backup the current settings 1 Click the Backup button. 2 When asked if you really want to save this file, click Save.
To restore to a saved configuration 1 Click the Browse button and navigate to the location of the backup file. Select the file, then click Save. The path to the file is automatically entered in the Restore Settings box. 2 Click the Restore button. A message appears to let you know that the Game Point! is being reset, click OK. 3 Wait while the unit is reset using the saved configuration. You will be prompted to log in to the Web Management Interface after the process is complete.
Using the Firmware Upgrade Page From time to time, Zoom may release updated software for your Game Point!. Use the Firmware Upgrade page to install the new software onto the unit. To see if there is a firmware update, periodically visit the Zoom Web site (www.zoom.com). To open the Firmware Upgrade page, click Tools in the left-navigational menu, then click Firmware Update. To update the firmware 1 Enter the path and name of the upgrade file, or click Browse and navigate to the file.
Using the Reset Page Use the Reset page to reset the Game Point!, but maintain the current settings. To open the Reset page, click Tools in the left-navigational menu, then click Reset. To reset the Game Point! 1 Click the Reset button. 2 When prompted to confirm the reset click OK. 3 When a message appears to let you know that the unit is being reset, click OK. You will be prompted to log into the Game Point! again once the reset is complete.
Appendix A Troubleshooting Problem I installed my Game Point!, but cannot connect my gaming device to a wireless network. Solution Here are some things you can try: 1 Power off your computer and power it on. Then open your Web browser and try to browse the Web. 2 Check the following: (Note: You need to log into the Web Management Interface to check the settings described below. Please see page 17 for login information.
3 Try using the network repair function on your gaming console.
Appendix B Specifying TCP/IP Settings Accessing the Game Point!’s Web Management Interface requires that you plug the unit directly into the Ethernet port of a computer. It also requires that the computer’s TCP/IP settings be set for static IP addressing and the following IP address and subnet mask: IP Address: 10.0.0.100 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 This Appendix details how to access and set the TCP/IP settings for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux operating systems.
Windows TCP/IP Settings How you configure your Windows computer’s network settings differs, depending on your operating system. Windows XP 1 Open the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box. a From the desktop, click the Start button, open Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections. b Double-click the Local Area Connection icon. c Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) entry (it should include “TCP/IP” in it, but not “AOL,” “Dial-up,” or “Adapter”) and click the Properties button.
Windows 2000 1 Open the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box: a From the desktop, open the Control Panel, then doubleclick Network Connections. b Double-click the Local Area Connection icon. c Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) entry (it should include “TCP/IP” in it, but not “AOL,” “Dial-up,” or “Adapter”) and click the Properties button. 2 Ensure that Use the following IP address is selected and enter 10.0.0.100 and 255.255.255.0 as the IP address and Subnet mask, respectively.
Windows 98/Me 1 Open the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box. a From the desktop, click the Start button, point to Settings, then Control Panel. b Double-click the Network icon to display the Network dialog box. c Select the Ethernet card’s TCP/IP entry (it should include “TCP/IP” in it, but not “AOL,” “Dial-up,” or “Adapter”) and click the Properties button and then click OK 2 On the IP Address tab, ensure that Specify an IP address is selected and enter 10.0.0.100 and 255.255.255.
Macintosh TCP/IP Settings How you configure your Macintosh computer’s network settings differs, depending on your Mac OS. For OS X, follow the instructions below. Otherwise, go to page 38. Mac OS X 1 From the Dock, choose System Preferences and then Network to display the Network pane. (For OS X 3, you also have to click the Configure button.) 2 Ensure that Automatic is selected from the Location list box. 3 Under the Show drop-down tab, choose Built-in Ethernet.
Mac OS 7.6.1 - 9.2.2 1 From the Apple menu, choose Control Panels and then TCP/IP to display the TCP/IP Window. 2 Under Connect via:, select Ethernet built-in. 3 Under Configure:, specify that you want to use static IP addressing and enter 10.0.0.100 and 255.255.255.0 as the IP address and Subnet mask, respectively. 4 Close the TCP/IP Window. You will be asked if you want to save the changes. Click Save.
Linux TCP/IP Settings The instructions for setting up static IP addressing vary dramatically by distribution, so you may want to refer to your particular version’s documentation. Note: If you have more than one network card installed, you will need to pick distinct Ethernet identifiers for each (eth0, eth1, eth2, and so forth). If you select an identifier other than eth0 for your Game Point!, use that identifier throughout.
SuSE Edit the file /etc/rc.config and specify a static IP address of 10.0.0.100. The settings you need to specify will be similar to the Red Hat example above. Reboot with this command: /sbin/shutdown -r now. Debian Locate /etc/network/interfaces and specify a static IP address of 10.0.0.100. The settings you need to specify will be similar to the Red Hat example above. Reboot with this command: /sbin/shutdown -r now.
Appendix C Setting Up an AdHoc Network The Game Point! supports AdHoc networks. This network type is also known as a peer-to-peer network. Within an AdHoc network, the Game Point! connects your gaming device directly to other gaming devices that are using a Game Point!. The network does not include a wireless access point or wireless router.
Setting up Static IP Addressing for Game Point! Windows XP, 2000: If you’re running Windows XP or 2000, open up the Control Panel and then double-click Network Connections. Double-click Local Area Connection. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. Select Use the following IP address. Enter an IP address of 10.0.0.100 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and click OK. Then close the windows you’ve opened.

Enter an SSID for the AdHoc network. Then enter a channel.
is now the IP Address of the Game Point! Device 2. Keep the default Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0. 18 19 20 21 Click the Logout icon at the top right of the screen, then close your Web browser. Reset the computer’s TCP/IP settings to what they were before you changed them. Configure each gaming device. Set the IP Address of Gaming Device 1 to 100.0.0.211. Set the IP Address of Gaming Device 2 to 100.0.0.212. Enter the Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0 for each gaming device.
Appendix D LED Description The following table describes each of the LEDs on the top of the Game Point! and what each light means when it is flashing and/or steady. LED What it does Flashing/Steady Status TX/RX Shows the status of the Game Point!’s wireless link When flashing green, the Game Point! is sending or receiving data wirelessly.
