SHABBOS KEEPER
Product Overview
Thank you for purchasing the Zman Technologies Shabbos Keeper. Read this and other
included documents carefully before use. This device is designed for use with compatible
GE Appliances ovens. Please visit www.zmantechnologies.com to verify compatibility.
Overview
The Zman Technologies Shabbos Keeper for Ovens connects to your GE Appliances oven
to automatically enable Shabbos compatible modes each week and before every holiday.
Using two modes, Shabbos mode and Holiday mode, the Shabbos Keeper allows for door
openings and closings, disables most of the buttons on the appliance, and oers flexibility
for adjusting warming and baking cycles during Shabbos and Yom Tov. The appropriate
mode will automatically activate based on the Jewish calendar date for your location.
Warming and baking features can be enabled when accepted by the user up to four hours
in advance of Sabbath or holiday.
Features and Halacha
When Yom Tov falls after Shabbos or the opposite, the Shabbos Keeper will
automatically switch to the appropriate mode. When Sabbath and Holiday coincide,
the Sabbath Mode will always override the Holiday Mode.
During Sabbath or Holiday, the oven door may be opened or closed at any time, even
while the oven is running. Opening or closing the oven door will not aect the heating
element, lights, sensors, or door alerts.
Since no changes to the oven temperature may be made during Sabbath or Holiday, the
Shabbos Keeper disables the buttons during Shabbos Keeper Mode. Many Rabbonim
may consider this as ketuma and there may be no need to additionally cover the
buttons or heating element. Please consult your Halachic authority. If the buttons will
be covered, be sure not to cover the vents.
Halacha requires that food be fully cooked before placing inside an oven before
Sabbath (shehi’a). Please consult your Halachic authority regarding the applicable laws
of placing raw or partially cooked food in the oven before Sabbath.
During Sabbath, non-cooked food may never be placed in the oven nor returned into
the oven. Regarding cold cooked food, please consult your Halachic authority.
Regarding returning fully cooked food to the ovens during Shabbos (chazarah), see
above and consult with your Halachic authority.
Cooking raw food is permitted on Holiday. Please consult with your halachic authority
regarding preparation from one holiday to the next.
We hope you enjoy this product and are eager to hear your feedback.
