Good hydration at work
Water is a vital nutrient for life. Everybody
wants to be healthy at work and a healthier
workforce leads to improved efficiency.
Even mild levels of dehydration adversely
affect both physical and mental
performance.
There is currently no agreement on how
much water we should drink each day
but estimates range from 1.2 to 3 litres
per day.
The need for consumption at the top of
these estimates would apply to those
working in hot or dusty environments or
where there is a need to wear protective
clothing.
Access to drinking water
The law requires that employers provide
an adequate supply of wholesome drinking
water for all persons in the workplace. This
must be readily available at suitable places.
Drinking water should not be sited where
contamination is likely such as toilet or
washroom facilities.
