Technical Specifications
Remove all existing mold and mildew. Use a solution of 1 cup household bleach per gallon of water or use a mildew
cleaner or JOMAX
®
Mold & Mildew Stain Remover. For commercial buildings, follow appropriate guidelines for mold
removal. (If there is concern about mold and mildew behind walls, underneath flooring, in ventilation systems or other
unseen areas, contact a professional who specializes in mold and mildew remediation). Remove exterior mold and mildew
with JOMAX
®
House Cleaner and Mildew Killer.
Previously painted surfaces: WATERTITE is guaranteed to produce a waterproof finish when applied to bare masonry. It can
be used over previously painted, non-glossy surfaces, however its waterproofing ability is then dependent upon the integrity of the
previous coating. For best results, remove as much of the old coating as possible by manually scraping the surface, followed by
thorough wire brushing. A belt power sander with a 50 grit sanding belt is also effective. (Be sure to wear an approved NIOSH
respirator.) Exterior surfaces should be power washed or sand blasted to remove all loose and scaling paint and cement. Clean all
surfaces with a muriatic acid wash and rinse as detailed above. Loose sand and grit caused by acid etching must be removed from the
surface by vacuuming or sweeping.
Patching Water Leaks and Cracks - All holes & cracks, especially active water leaks, must be patched with WATERTITE
®
quality hydraulic cement or similar product. Seal the joint where the floor and wall meet with WATERTITE Polyurethane Sealant or
similar product. Follow manufacturer’s directions for dry time, etc.
Application:
To ensure against accumulation of solvent vapors, be sure to open all windows and doors. Use a non-sparking exhaust
fan to provide air movement. Extinguish all flames and pilot lights at water heaters and heating systems. Turn off
air/heating systems at thermostat.
Walls can be wet, but must be free of active water leaks. Stir thoroughly before and during application. DO NOT THIN. Apply when air
and surface temperatures are 50ºF (10ºc) or higher. Liberally apply the first coat using a thick polyester bristle brush, or by rolling a
small section (3ft X 3ft), and then using a brush to work the coating into the pores of the masonry. Apply as much paint as necessary
to produce a continuous, pinhole free film. Use a 1” nap roller for unpainted, porous surfaces, and a 3/4” nap roller for smooth or
previously painted surfaces. The second coat can be brushed or rolled. Do not over spread.
Dry Time-Dries to the touch in 1 hour. Allow the first coat to dry a minimum of 4 hours before applying the second coat. After the
second coat has dried, inspect surface for pinholes. Reapply additional paint to those areas as necessary. After reaching its full cure in
7-14 days – slightly longer if tinted – WATERTITE will stop up to 34 psi of water pressure! Do not apply if heavy rain is expected within
24 hours.
Recommended Coverage – On rough, porous masonry apply both coats at a rate of 75 sq. ft./gal. (7m²) on smooth, denser
surfaces, and those previously painted, apply the first coat as above. The second coat can be applied at a rate of 100 sq. ft./gal.
(9.3m²) two coats must be applied to earn our warranty.
Color/Tinting – WATERTITE tints easily to beige, blue, and gray (see back of container label). It can also be tinted to other off-
white and pastel tones. Start with 25% of the tinting formula for a given color and adjust if necessary. Maximum tint - 1.5 oz. (30 ml)
per gallon. Mix on mechanical shaker for 7-9 minutes, or use a drill mixer. Multiple containers of tinted paint should be intermixed
(boxed) to ensure color uniformity.
Cleanup – Wipe up fresh spills and drips with a rag and paint thinner. To minimize solvent odors, use odorless mineral spirits and
clean application tools outside of the work area.
Topcoating - WATERTITE produces a beautiful, bright white eggshell finish. If desired, it may be topcoated with any quality paint,
but will nullify the mold and mildew protection portion of our warranty. To maintain the warranty, use PERMA-WHITE
®
Mold & Mildew-
Proof* Interior Paint for interiors and PERMA-WHITE
®
Mold & Mildew-Proof* House & Trim Paint for exteriors. Allow a minimum of 14
days before painting.
Limitations: WATERTITE is not recommended for potable water tanks, cisterns, bird baths or swimming pools, or as a primer or finish
on floors subject to foot traffic.
