Selection Data
Generic Type 100% shellac-base finish and sealer in a
clear-tone aerosol. It is manufactured using a process that
ensures long-term stability and shelf-life.
General Uses
Bulls Eye Spray Shellac is a complete finish for picture frames,
wicker, louver doors and small objects or surfaces that would
otherwise be difficult to coat using a brush or wiping rag. It
used as both a sealer and a finish for crafts items and hobby
projects. Spray Shellac is a great fast-drying protective coating
for metalwork, tools, toys, bric-a-brac, etc. and may be used
as a touch-up finish for previously shellacked floors,
thresholds, stairs and furniture. Seals in knots, sappy streaks,
porous wood, spackled areas, stains, etc. Note that Bulls Eye
Spray Shellac dries clear with a light golden color. Always test
for color compatibility when applying to white or light color
surfaces.
Wood Finish - Recommended as a traditional aerosol
finish for bare or previously coated interior wood
surfaces, including furniture, cabinets, doors, trim, etc.
Protective Sealer Bulls Eye Shellac will help prevent
tools from rusting and metals from tarnishing. It’s a great
all-purpose sealer for golf clubs, wood toys, bric-a-brac,
etc. and will even stick to glass and ceramic tile. Spray
Shellac is also a great sealer and protective finish for
paintings, pastel drawings and statuary.
Pre-finish Sealer Spray Shellac is 100% wax-free and
may be used to seal surfaces under polyurethane finishes,
varnishes, paints and other coatings.
Odor Barrier Shellac is a natural odor barrier and will
effectively seal in odors from fire, pets, water damage,
etc. on bare or clear finished particleboard, woodwork
and floors.
Knot Sealer Shellac holds back knot and sap bleed
better than any other coating. Scrape and sand the
surface of the knot to remove excess sap and wipe with a
rag soaked in mineral spirits. When dry apply two or
three coats of Spray Shellac to the knot area before
priming the entire surface with an appropriate primer.
Application Data
Surface Preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and sound.
Remove any wax from surface with mineral
spirits. Sand bare wood as smoothly as
possible and remove all sanding dust. This is
an important preparation step and should not
be overlooked since the smoothness of the
final finish is determined by the smoothness
of the surface. Previously applied wood stains
must be completely dry. Previously applied
finishes must be clean and tightly adhered.
Mask off or otherwise cover nearby objects
or areas subject to overspray.
Application
May be applied over soundly adhered existing furniture
finishes, including lacquer, polyurethane, and varnish. Note:
When dry Bulls Eye Shellac is non-toxic and hypoallergenic,
making it ideal for children’s toys, craft items and furniture.
For best results hold can 10 to 12 inches from object and apply
evenly and consistently with short, light, strokes. Do not direct
spray for too long in one area as this will cause drips and runs
to form. If this happens, stop spraying and either wipe off the
surface entirely with a rag soaked in denatured alcohol or allow
surface to completely dry before sanding drips and runs
smooth. Let dry 45 minutes before sanding with 120 or finer
grit sandpaper. Remove all dust and apply second coat. Allow
subsequent coats to dry at least 1 hour before sanding lightly
and recoating. If using Spray Shellac as a sealer always let it
thoroughly dry for about an hour before painting or finishing.
Between coats turn can upside down and spray to clear valve.
Clogged spray valve may be soaked in alcohol and cleaned with
a fine needle.
Application Conditions
Can must be at room temperature. Surface must be clean, dry,
free of wax and grease. Provide ventilation and avoid
application in high humidity. Test to determine spray pattern.
Warmer temperatures will accelerate and colder temperatures
will prolong the dry time of this product. Do not apply when RH
is greater than 85% or when temperature is within 10º of the
dew point. Bulls Eye Spray Shellac is not recommended for use
in areas where surface heat exceeds 160
o
F (71
o
F). (Note If
in doubt, always test apply shellac on scrap wood before
using).
Dry time At 70
o
F (21
o
C) the first coat on bare wood will
usually dry to touch in a few minutes and can be sanded and
recoated in about 20 to 30 minutes. Subsequent coats or coats
applied over existing finishes will dry to the touch in 10 to 15
minutes and can be sanded and recoated in about an hour.
Clean up Wipe up drips and overspray with a rag soaked in
denatured alcohol or use a solution of household ammonia and
water.
