Application Data
Surfaces/Substrates – COVER STAIN is recommended for application to the following fire, smoke or water damaged substrates:
• Interior New or previously painted drywall, cured plaster and cement-based coatings, wood (including pine, fir, cedar, redwood,
plywood), metal (including aluminum, iron, steel, and copper), vinyl, PVC, masonry (including stucco, concrete block, poured concrete,
and brick).
• Exterior - New or previously painted wood (including pine, fir, cedar, redwood, and pressure-treated wood), hard-board, metal
(including aluminum, iron, steel and copper), vinyl and PVC.
Color/Tinting – COVER STAIN is white but may be tinted to off white and pastel shades by adding no more than 2 oz. universal
colorant per gallon.
Coverage – 400 sq. ft. (37m²) per gallon on smooth, painted, non-porous surfaces; 300 sq. ft. (27 m²) per gallon on rough,
unpainted, porous surfaces. Application losses will vary according to the porosity of the substrate and the method of application and
should be taken into account when estimating the quantity of product needed.
• High pH Resistance – Can be applied to high pH surfaces (up to 12.5) without bubbling, lifting or degrading due to
high alkalinity making it an ideal primer for concrete, stucco, plaster & fast setting joint/texture compounds.
• Cedar & Redwood Bleed – Traps tannins in the primer film to prevent them from ‘bleeding’ into the finish coat. For
best results, allow to dry overnight before applying topcoat. Very porous woods may require two coats before topcoat.
Chalky Siding – Contains chalk-binding resins for use on moderately chalked aluminum or previously painted siding and
trim.
Glossy Surfaces – Adheres to glossy enamel paints and clear finishes, Formica®, Masonite®, PVC, fiberglass, vinyl –
even ceramic tile – without pre-sanding or surface de-glossing.
