Description
Ready to use DIF GEL penetrates and loosens wallpaper and softens residual paste left behind the wallpaper. Its GEL consistency
makes it easy to apply. The non-drip blue GEL eliminates the mess of steamers and liquid solutions by clinging to walls and even
ceilings. It is economical too--by staying wetter longer only one application is usually needed saving both time and money. Its enzyme-
based formula is highly effective in removing wallpaper quickly and completely. DIF GEL is safe, non-toxic and odorless.
Where to use
DIF GEL can be used to strip most types of wallpapers that cannot be effectively peeled or dry-stripped from the walls.
These include: traditional paper wallpapers, vinyl coated papers, solid vinyl wallpapers, foils, mylars, grasscloth, textiles
and even painted wallpapers. (Borders—see section - Removal of wallpaper borders.)
Where to begin
The type of wallpaper will determine where to begin the removal process. Go to a seam or an edge of the wallpaper and
try to peel it off. Remove any layer that will peel off first and then apply DIF GEL to the remaining backing paper or
residual adhesive. Stop if attempts to dry strip the existing wallpaper fail or result in damage to the drywall and refer to
the following instructions for removal of specific types of wallpaper.
Traditional paper wallpaper
Traditional paper wallpaper is uncoated and will absorb removers readily. No further preparation is necessary before
applying DIF GEL.
Coated wallpaper
If wallpaper is a washable type (generally a standard paper that is coated with a vinyl or acrylic coating) score* the surface using
Zinsser’s PaperTiger
®
scoring tool to enhance DIF GEL penetration. Score the wallpaper from the ceiling to the floor, using just enough
force to break through the surface of the wallpaper.
Vinyl wallpaper
Most vinyl wallpapers are either peelable (the top layer can be removed, leaving the paper backing behind) or strippable (the entire
sheet of wallpaper can be removed, leaving only adhesive residue behind). Always try to peel or strip the wallpaper first and apply DIF
GEL to the paper backing or adhesive residue. If the vinyl wallpaper cannot be peeled or stripped off, score the surface thoroughly with
Zinsser’s PaperTiger before applying DIF GEL.
Painted wallpaper
If the wallpaper has been painted over, score the surface thoroughly using the PaperTiger scoring tool.
Foil, mylars, and other sealed wallpapers
Thoroughly score the surface with Zinsser’s PaperTiger before applying DIF GEL.
