Overview
The Z8FMC16100 Series Flash microcontrollers, a
part o f the Z8 Encore! MC
™
family of m otor con -
trol d evices , are b ased on ZiLOG’ s advanced eZ8
8-bit CPU core . Op timized for motor control appli -
cations , these devices s upport the c ontrol of single-
and multi-phase variable -s peed motors. T ar get
applications are lar ge a ppliances, small appliances,
H V AC , automotive, power tools, and personal care
devices.
The Z8FMC16100 Series Flash MCUs f eature a
flexible PWM module with three complementary
pairs or six independent PWM outputs supporting
dead-band operation and fault protection trip input.
These features provide multip hase control capabil -
ity for a variety of motor types and ensure safe
operation of the motor by providing pulse-by-pulse
or latched fast shutdown of the PWM pins during
fault condition.
The Z8FMC16100 Series M CU f eature s up to eight
single-ended channels of 10-bit A/D conversion,
with a sample and hold circuit. It also features one
operational amplifier for current sampling, with a
dedicated sample and hold function controlled by a
Motor Control PWM module , and one c omparator
for over -current limiting or shutdown.
A hi gh -s peed ADC enables voltage, current , and
back-EMF sensing , while du al-edge interrupts and
a 16-bit timer provide a Hall-ef fect sensor interface.
A full-duplex 9-bit UAR T provides serial, asyn -
chronous communication and supports the Local
Interconnect Network (LIN) serial communica -
tions protocol. The LIN bus is a cost-ef ficient sin -
gle master , multiple slave or ganization that
supports speeds up to 20 Kbps.
Included in its rich set of peripherals are other fea -
tures such as: one additional 16-bit timer with cap -
ture/compare/PWM capability , SPI or I

C Master/
Slave for serial communication, and an internal
precision oscillator .
The single-pin debugger and programming inter -
face simplifies code development and allows e asy
in-circuit programming.
