CHAPTER 10. PRINTER MAINTENANCE 233
10.6 Printer calibration
One of the advantages of the Polar3D printer’s underlying polar
coordinates archit ectu r e, and minimal number of m oving parts,
is that the Polar3D printer doesn’t tend to require frequent cal-
ibration. However, o c cas i on a l l y you may want to check and
adjust its calibrati on.
There are two general types of cal ib r at i o n : (1) the z height
of the extru d er,and(2)theconsistentlevelnessofthebuild
plate.
1. If the z height of the extruder is slightly high, the first print
layer (first layer of material extrud ed ) may only be lightly
touch i n g th e bui l d pl a t e, instead of being “smooshed so
that it adheres to the build plate. If the z height is too
low, filament either may not be able to come out at all, or
may come out too “smooshed” and actually flattened.
To calibrate the z height of the ext r u der, fromwithinthe
Polar Cloud, click on the printer, and then click on the set-
tings (dia l icon); or when communicating directly with the
printer, from your device (computer/tablet/phone), con-
nect to the printer’s local IP. At this point you should be
seeing the printer’s local interface:
