Access Point (AP)
Access Point is a transparent media access controlled (MAC) bridge
that provides Ethernet to Wireless access. With Access Point,
wireless workstations can be added easily to an existing Ethernet.
Access Point works with Wireless LAN Card just like Ethernet Hub
works with NIC Card.
Ad-hoc

Ethernet NIC direct connection to NIC through crossover cable.
During Ad-hoc mode, wireless LAN workstations connect to each
other without Access Point.
Infrastructure mode
Infrastructure is a network connection mode that allows wireless LAN
workstations connect with Access Point. When you setting network
type to "Infrastructure", wireless workstation connect to other
wireless nodes or Ethernet via Access Point.
BSS ID
A specific Ad hoc LAN is called a Basic Service Set (BSS).
Computers in a BSS must be configured with the same BSS ID.
