Input Cable Length Tuning
Th e DVI / HDMI S p e cification is ver y spe c i f i c on its oupu t s pecifica-
tions and lit t l e can be done i n the way of pre - e m p his on the ou t p u t
to drive longer cabl e s w ithout falli n g o utside of the s p ecifications.
It i s up to the DVI /HD M I re ce i ver to ad j u s t fo r c able length d i f fer-
ence by applying equa l i z ation in the inp u t s to compensate fo r t he
losses that occur w i t h var ying length c a b l es.
Th e HDVI5 allows for 15 levels of equ a l i z ation. Using high q u a l ity
DVI or DVI to HD M I c o nversion cabl e s, the H D V I5 can compensate
fo r cables of up to 2 0 m e ters (65f t ) , on its inputs a n d still reliably
re ce i ve a s t a b le, s park le free image at 1080 p.
Output cable l e n gths are ver y much a func tion of t h e m onitor's
re ce i ver's c a b abilities. The H D V I5 uses source termination to com-
pensate fo r all lengths o f o utput cables, and to he l p i n cases where
the receive r m ay not have fo l l owed the s p ecifications proper l y.

Step 1: Place the HDVI5 into the Cable Length Adj Mode
Press the d e s i re d input and ho l d t he button for 4 seconds,
until the HDVI5 e n ter s t h e Cable Le n gth Adj Mode.
Step 2: Enter the Cable Length Adj Mode
Use the 'A1' and 'A2' bu t to n s t o t u ne cable len g t h .
'A1' adjusts for shor ter cabl e s.
'A2' adjusts for longer c a b l es.
'SEL' switches to Ba n d w idth settings ( S ee nex t page).
Shor t cables a re ind i c a te by on l y Red LEDs be i n g lit.
Medium le n g t h cables are indcated by only B l u e LEDs lit.
Lon g c ables are indicated by Blue & R ed LEDs being l i t.
When a cable's t u n i ng is too shor t, t h e d isplay will begin to spar k le,
eve n t u ally going bl a n k . The best results are to star t l o n g, and u s e a
length a step or t wo above a ny no t i c a ble ar tifac ts on the s c reen.
Overcompesating a shor t c a b le by tuning it as a long cable ca n l e ad
to re f l ectio n s o n the line a n d d ecre ase its noise m a rgi n .
Note: Each inpu t c an be tuned i n d ividually and a l l settings are
saved in no n - volatile mem o r y a n d a re not affec ted by a
power fai l u re.
