Pick a remote, any remote!
Star t by pick ing the remote youd like to use with t h e
HDS4.1. I f the remote yo u plan on usi n g is not programma-
ble (for instance, fro m an old T V ), s k ip t h e next s te p.
If you plan o n u sing a universal remote, star t by setting i t
up as a remote for a T V or VCR that you do no t own . ( For
instance if you dont own a Sony T V, setup your u n i ver s a l
re m o te to contro l a Sony T V.)
Step 1: Put the HDS4.1 into the Setup Mode
Th e HDS4.1 is p l a c e d i nto the setup mod e by p ress i n g and
holding the Power bu t ton for abo u t 4 seconds.
Step 2: Select the Intelligent-IR™ Learn Mode
Th ere are many options available in t h e setup mode, but for
now all were interested in is t h e I ntelligent-IR lea r ning
mode. This is s e l ected by pressing t h e 1bu t ton .
Once the 1bu t ton i s pre ssed, the standby LED wi l l flash
slowe r a nd all the ot h e r LEDs will tu r n off. The H D S 4.1 is
now waiting for new IR codes to be s e n t f ro m yo u r re m ote
cont ro l.
Step 3: Teach the HDS4.1 your new remote control codes
On your re mote contro l, press the following b u t to n s, in t h e
fo l l ow i n g ord e r:

Th at s it! The HDS4.1 will retur n to the state it was in b e fore
setup, an d w ill now work with your new remote!

Note: All remote co ntro l co d e s are saved in no n - volatile
memor y and will no t b e lost during a p ower fail u re.

Step 1: Put the HDS4.1 into the Setup Mode
Press and hold the Power Button for 4 secs.
The standby LED will blink wildly, and the
selection LEDs will start sequencing to the
right. (You’ll know it when it happens!)
Step 2: Press the ‘1’ button for Intelligent-IR™ learning

Once the ‘1’ button
is pressed...
Step 3: Teach the HDS4.1 its new IR codes
Press the following sequence of buttons on
your remote control:
Power 1 2 3 4 8 9
That’s it! The HDS4.1 now operates with
your new remote control!
...the standby LED will flash slower,
and all the other LEDs will turn off.
