Troubleshooting
Replace the Platen Roller
Internal Printer Support
Remove and replace the platen roller.
See Platen Cleaning and Replacement on page 125.
Communication Issues
This section identifies problems with communications, the possible causes, and the recommended
solutions.
Issue: Label Job Sent, No Data Transfer
Condition
A label format was sent to the printer but was not recognized. The DATA indicator does not flash.
Cause
The communication parameters are incorrect for typically serial interface communications.
Remedy
Internal Printer Support
• Check the printer driver or software communications settings (if applicable).
• Serial Port Only - Check the printer’s handshake protocol and serial port settings. The setting used must
match the one being used by the host computer.
• The serial cable you are trying to use may not be a standard DTE or DCE type cable, is damaged, or is
too long per the RS-232 Serial ports specifications
• The interface cable may be too long, does not meet interface specifications, not properly shielded or
routed by electronic noise sources (fluorescent lights, transformers, motors, etc.).
• See Serial Interface on page 85 (setup), Interface Cable Requirements on page 83,and Serial Port
Interface (connector wiring).
Issue: Label Job Sent, Skips Labels or Prints Bad Content
Condition
A label format was sent to the printer. Several labels print, then the printer skips, misplaces, misses, or
distorts the image on the label.
Cause: Serial CommunicationsMiss-Match
The serial communication settings are incorrect for the printer or the host computer system and operating
system software.
Remedy:Set Serial Communications
Internal printer support
Check the printer driver or software communications settings (if applicable). Ensure that the flow control
settings and other serial port handshake settings match the host system.
See Serial Interface on page 85 (setup).
