KDU — Printer Accessory
The KDU (keyboard display unit) is a small terminal unit that interfaces with the printer for
accessing EPL label forms stored in the printer. Your 2824 Plus printer must include the serial
port option to operate with the KDU.
The KDU is strictly a terminal and does not have the capability to store data or set up
parameters. The KDU is used for the following functions:
• List label forms stored in printer
• Retrieve label forms stored in printer
• Input variable data
• Printing labels
The KDU was designed for Zebra EPL printers. The EPL printer’s serial port was configured
for DCE (data communication equipment) communications configuration. The 2824 Plus
printer supports DTE (data terminal equipment) serial port configuration with the serial port
auto-detection and configuration. The printer supplies the KDU with power through the serial
port. The KDU serial port adapter supplied with new KDU’s is not needed.
KDU Installation
1. Turn the printer power off. Disconnect the any other interface cables attached to the
printer.
2. Plug the KDU’s cable onto the printer’s serial port, tighten the screws to secure the cable.
3. Turn the printer power on. See the KDU users and EPL programmer’s guides for more
detail on KDU and printer operations and usage.
