CONTROL PANEL Power Light: Indicates unit is turned on Flashing light indicates low battery On Switch: momentary action turns on unit Feed Switch: Advances media when held down. Status Light: Steady light indicates printer is either out of media, or media cover is open. IR Window; must be aligned with corresponding window on host for IR communications to occur. (Units with IR option only) Flashing during data transmission between host and printer indicates normal wireless operation.
COMMUNICATIONS The printer must establish communications with a host terminal which sends the data to be printed. Communications occur in four basic ways: • By a cable between the printer and its host terminal • Linking to a host terminal via Infrared (usually by means of the industry standard IrDA protocol) • By means of a Bluetooth™ short range radio frequency link. • By means of a wireless LAN (Local Area Network) per 802.11b specifications. Cable Communications CAUTION.
Wireless LAN Cameo Printers can be equipped with a several radio options using the industry standard 802.11 or 802.11b protocol. These printers will have the FCC I.D. number of the radio on the product label. They allow wireless communication as a node within a local area network, (LAN) and its wireless capabilities allow communications from any point within the LAN’s perimeter. Methods of establishing communications to the Cameo printer will vary with each LAN application.
VERIFY THAT THE PRINTER IS WORKING Verifying that the Printer Is Working Before you connect the printer to your computer or portable data terminal, make sure that the printer is in proper working order. You can do this by printing a configuration label using the two-key reset method. Refer to the next section, “Print a Configuration Label.” • 1-9 • RMAN-Cameo rev.
PRINT A CONFIGURATION LABEL The printer can create a configuration label which exercises all of the printhead’s thermal elements and creates a detailed report of the printer’s settings and any special files that may be loaded into memory. This label can be used as an initial tool to diagnose such basic printer problems as missing printhead elements, missing or incorrect application files, or incorrect settings. Printing a Configuration Label 1. Turn the printer off.

SECTION 2 • CAMEO REPAIR PROCEDURES This section describes how to replace parts that you can purchase to repair your Cameo printer. TOOLS AND SUPPLIES Make use of the following tools and supplies for maintaining the printer and installing the repair kits: Hand Tools • • • • #1 Phillips Head Screwdriver #1 Slot Head Screwdriver.
CLEANING Never use any sharp objects on printer mechanism as it could damage the print head and platen. Use only the supplied cleaning pen or a cotton swab saturated with alcohol for cleaning. Always turn the printer off prior to any cleaning operation. Caution: Use care when handling the Printer Assembly to avoid being cut on the serrated edge of the Tear Bar. Cameo printers will provide years of reliable service provided a few simple guidelines are followed.
Cleaning the platen (print roller) Applies to printers configured for linered media only • Open the printer by squeezing the finger grips on either side of the media compartment cover and swinging it open. • Gently clean the platen with the cleaning pen supplied with the printer and/or alcohol and a cotton swab while rotating the platen. Cleaning the Media Sensor The Media sensor is located inside the media compartment under the print head.
TROUBLESHOOTING Never use any sharp objects on the printer mechanism as it could damage the print head. Use only isopropyl alcohol, the supplied cleaning pen and /or a cotton swab for cleaning the printer. Self Test: Perform the self test as described in the Controls section. The unit should print a line of interlocking “x” characters to insure all elements of the print head are working, print out the version of software loaded in the printer and then print two reports.
No print (Continued): • Network printers: refer to the RF LAN Information section of the Self Test printout to verify the printer’s SSID and IP addresses are correct, and that the printer is “associated” with the wireless LAN. • Invalid label format or command structure — use Hex Dump Mode for troubleshooting. Refer to the Programming Manual for more information. Reduced battery charge life: • Recondition (cycle) battery. • Damaged battery-replace.

SECTION 3 • CAMEO PCCS AND PARTS Using the Cameo Product Configuration Code Each Cameo Printer has a 15-digit Product Configuration Code (PCC). When ordering replacement parts, use the PCC code to determine the features installed on your printer. Then use the exploded views to determine which kit to order. Options from the Product Configuration Code (PCC) are cross referenced in the exploded view. (for example, the Bluetooth™ SRRF option would be referred to as “PCC digit 7 = B”.
FACTORY REPAIR AND PARTS ORDERING PROCEDURE If you need to return a printer to the factory for repair or upgrade, a Return Material Authorization (RMA) must be issued from Repair Services prior to returning any assemblies, PC boards, printers, cables, etc. for repair or replacement. The name, address, contact and phone number of the company that equipment is to be returned to must also be provided. A problem description is also necessary.
