10. Refer to Figure 4-39 on page 4-48. Reinstall the C-clip in the groove on the shaft.
11. Place a 0.020" (0.508 mm) shim or feeler gauge between the spindle assembly and
the ribbon supply spindle subassembly.
12. Slide the outer spindle on the shaft.
13. Align the large notch on the outer spindle with the corresponding protrusion on the
spindle assembly. The protrusion on the spindle assembly is in line with the metal
core clip.
14. Carefully slide the outer spindle on to the spindle assembly to the first notch.
15. Refer to Figure 4-41 on page 4-48. If it is pushed on too far, simply pull the outer
spindle away from the spindle assembly until it looks like Figure 4-40 on page 4-48.
16. Slide the cup and spring assembly on the shaft.
17. While applying light pressure against the cup and spring assembly, and with the
0.020 shim or feeler gauge between the spindle assembly and the ribbon supply
spindle sub-assembly, tighten the two set screws on the cup and spring assembly.
18. Once the cup and spring assembly is tightened, remove the shim/feeler gauge. The
outer spindle and spindle assembly should have some “play” on the shaft. When
rotated counterclockwise, the outer spindle and spindle assembly spins freely until it
encounters the spring. Continuing to turn the outer spindle and spindle assembly
counterclockwise produces a “snap,” and the ribbon supply spindle subassembly
moves freely.
19. Rotating in a clockwise direction, the outer spindle and spindle assembly encounter
the spring and attempt to spin the outer spindle and spindle assembly in the
counterclockwise direction.
20. Push in the outer spindle until it is flush against the spindle assembly. The outer
spindle and spindle assembly should now spin freely clockwise and
counterclockwise with no restrictions.
21. If the results in steps 17, 18, and 19 are not achieved, repeat steps 9 through 19.
22. Replace the printer data cable and AC power cord.
23. Reload media and ribbon, and test the printer operation.
Note • Rotate the outer spindle to access the set screws.
