1. Use an emery cloth to remove burrs and nicks on the ribbon supply spindle shaft.
2. Refer to Figure 4-37. Slide the ribbon supply spindle subassembly on the ribbon
supply spindle shaft.
3. Slide one of the cup and spring assemblies on the ribbon supply spindle shaft.
4. Place a 0.010" (.254 mm) shim or feeler gauge between the C-clip and ribbon
supply spindle subassembly.
5. While applying light pressure against the cup and spring assembly, tighten the two
set screws on the cup and spring assembly.
6. Once the cup and spring assembly is tightened, remove the shim/feeler gauge. The
ribbon supply spindle subassembly should have some “play” on the shaft. When
rotated counterclockwise, the ribbon supply spindle subassembly spins freely until it
encounters the spring. Continuing to turn the ribbon supply spindle subassembly
counterclockwise produces a “snap,” and the ribbon supply spindle subassembly
moves freely.
Note • Rotate the ribbon supply spindle subassembly to access the set screws.
