1. Turn printer Off (O), and remove the AC power cord.
2. Remove the printer data cable.
3. Remove the main door, front door, and rear cover.
4. Refer to Figure 4-22 on page 4-27. Remove the two screws securing
the strip plate.
5. Rotate the head-open lever counterclockwise to remove the pressure on the
printhead.
6. Refer to Figure 4-35 on page 4-43. Using an open-end wrench, remove the two nuts
securing the printhead assembly to the print mechanism assembly.
7. Carefully remove the printhead cable from the printhead assembly.
8. Install the replacement printhead assembly by reversing steps 4 through 7.
9. Reconnect the AC power cord.
10. Perform a voltage calibration as described in "Printhead Voltage Adjustment" on
page 4-29.
11. Print test labels to determine print quality. Adjust the strip plate as described in,
"Strip-Plate Adjustment" on page 4-27, only if experiencing ribbon wrinkle or if the
ribbon is not tracking properly. Adjust the printhead as described in. "Printhead
Position Adjustment" on page 4-23, only if necessary (replacement printheads are
pre-aligned at the factory).
Note • Do not remove, loosen or adjust the two screws on top of the printhead
assembly. They are used only when a printhead alignment is necessary.
Notes • When installing the printhead cable to the printhead assembly, ensure
the insulation sleeve is pushed as far forward (toward the printhead assembly)
as possible.

Caution:
The printhead voltage adjustment is critical to the life of the printhead. Do not use this
adjustment to try to increase the printing darkness.
