Heating above the melting point releases metallic oxides which may cause metal fume
fever which is an influenza like illness. Symptoms include headache, metallic taste in
the mouth, cough, thirst, throat irritation, shortness of breath, fever, sweating and pain
in the limbs. This illness is not permanent and recovery usually occurs within 24-48
hours after onset.
