Open syste m au the nti c ati on s imp l y con si st s of two c om mun ic ati on s. Th e firs t is an
authentication request by the client that contains the s tation ID (typically the MAC
address). This is followed by an authentication response from the AP/router con ta ining a
success or failure message. An example of when a failure may occur is if the client's MAC
ad dress is explicitly exc luded in the AP/router configuration.
Shared
Shared key authentication relies on the fact that both stations taking part in the
authenticati o n p rocess ha v e th e same "sha red" key or passphrase. The sha red key i s
manu a ll y se t o n bo th t he c lie n t st at ion and the A P/ rou t er. Three types of shared key
au thentication are available today for home or small office WLAN environments.
Auto
The AP will Select the Open or Shared by the client’s r equest aut omatically.
WPA-PSK
Select Encryption and Pr e-share Key Mode
If yo u s el ec t HEX, you hav e to f i ll in 64 hexadec i mal (0, 1, 2... 8, 9, A, B .. .F) digits . If
you select ASCII, the length of pre-share key is from 8 to 63.
