SEQUENCE OF OPERATION
VARIABLE AIR VOLUME (VAV) Operation
Avariableairvolume(VAV)optionusingavariablefrequency
drive(VFD)shallbeavailableforapplicationsrequiringa
constantsupplyductstaticpressure.Adifferentialpressure
transducershallmonitorsupplyductstaticpressureandreturn
aspeedreferencesignaltotheVFDtocontroltheoutputofthe
indoorblowermotor.
DUCT STATIC PRESSURE Control
A0-5"WCpressuretransducer,locatedinthecontrolbox
compartment,shallsensestatic(gauge)pressureinthesupply
airductandconvertthispressuremeasurementtoa
proportional0-5VDCelectricaloutput.
Pressure-transmittingplastictubing(1/4"diameter)shallbe
fieldsuppliedandinstalledfromthetransducertoboththe
ductworkandtotheatmosphere.Connectthetubingfromthe
'HIGH'pressuretapofthetransducertoastaticpressuretap
(fieldsupplied)inthesupplyductlocatedatapointwhere
constantpressureisexpected.Topreventanunstablesignal
duetoairturbulence,thereshouldbenoobstructions,turnsor
VAVterminalboxesup-ordown-streamofthesensingtube
locationforatleastadistanceof6-10timestheductdiameter.
Tubingmustalsoberunbetweenthe'LOW'pressuretapofthe
transducerandatmosphericpressure(outsideoftheunit).
TheIntelli-ComfortIIcontrolboardisusedtoconvertthe
pressuretransducerinputsignalintoaspeedreferencesignal
thatthedriveusestocontrolthespeedoftheblowermotor.
Thismodulatingspeedreferencesignalisgeneratedusingan
algorithmwhichcontinuouslycalculatesanoutputvalue.
Programmablesetpoints:
Theductstaticsetpointisthepressurethatthedrivewill
maintainwhenoperatingtheunitinVAVmode.Theset-pointis
adjustablebetween0"WCand5"WCwiththedefaultsettingof
1.5"WC.
Theductstatichigh-limitsetpointisthemaximumallowable
ductpressuretopreventdamagefromover-pressurizationof
theductworkintheeventofeitheradriveordamperfailure.
Thehigh-limitset-pointshallbeadjustablebetween0"WCand
5"WCwiththefactorydefaultsettingof4.5"WC.Iftheduct
staticpressurereachesthehigh-limitsetpoint,thenthesupply
fanmotorshallshutdown.
NOTE: Eitherofthesetpointsdescribedaboveshallbe
adjustablethroughtheunitcontrolboard(UCB)withtheuseof
aUSB-to-RS485converter,personalcomputerorPDAanda
down-loadedcopyoftheSimplicity®softwareavailableatthe
UPGnetCommercialProductCatalogwebsite.

documentforacompletelistoftheboard'spro-grammableset
pointsanddefaults.
FACTORY-INSTALLED VFD
Thefactory-installedVFDshallbemountedintheBlower
AccessCompartment.Thedriveshallbefactorywiredto
includeboth3-phasepowerandcontrolconnections(runpermit
signal,speedreferencesignalandfaultsignal).
Allrequireddriveparametersshallbepre-programmedatthe
factory.
Forunitsalsoequippedwithgas/electricheat,aterminalblock
locatedintheunit'scontrolboxandconnectedtotheIntelli-
ComfortIIboard's"VAVBOX"terminal,shallbefieldwiredto
thebuilding'sVAVboxestoensurefullyopendampersduring
heatingoperation.
MANUAL BYPASS VFD
Anoptional,factory-installedmanualbypassswitchshallbe
availablewithfactory-installedVFDcanbefoundintheBlower
MotorAccesscompartmentandhasthefollowingthree
positions:
• DRIVE -routespowerthroughtheVFDformodulating
controloftheindoorblowermotor.
