The download tool can not execute downloading during other system connects to the system/ network

management VFD of the device.

A6.4 Flow of Software Download

The owchart below outlines the software download procedure. Although the time taken for the entire

procedure varies depending on the size of the eld bus device’s software, it will take about 20 minutes

for a one-to-one connection between a eldbus device and download tool, and longer when multiple

eld devices are connected to the eldbus.

Carrying out a software download leaves the PD tag, node address, and transducer block calibration

parameters that are retained in the nonvolatile memory inside the target device, but may reset other

parameters to the defaults (except a minor update that does not change the number of parameters).

Hence, where necessary, save the parameters using an engineering tool, parameter setting utility,

or the like before carrying out a software download, and then recongure the eld device(s) after the

download. For details, see Section A1.6.

The current dissipation of the target eld device increases transitorily immediately after a download

due to erasing of the FlashROM’s contents. Use a eldbus power supply which has sufcient capacity

to cover such increases in feed current.

Upon completion of the activation, the target eldbus device performs resetting internally, which

temporarily halts eldbus communication and function block executions. Be especially careful about a

valve positioner; the output air pressure will fall to the minimum level (i.e., zero).
