Surround (Independence PSE only)
If your version of Independence contains the Independence PSE (Professional Surround Extension),
you have full support of any professional surround format up to 8.0 as well as specially optimized
features for Multi Channel Samples, filters and effects.
In the Preferences section „Surround“ you can adjust your desired Routing Settings. Therefore just
click in the desired target channel and select your desired output channel from the pull-down menu.
IMPORTANT: After your routing setup you can choose/switch between all available surround
formats (5.0, 7.1 and more) in the „Audio Out“ pull-down menu for each Layer
individually and at any time.
Independence basic path
The freely assignable „Independence Basic Path“ defines the location of the „Independence Basic
Path“ folder on your hard disk. Without a valid path you will not be able to launch Independence as
the „Independence Basic Path“ folder and its subfolders contain all important information which are
required for the use of Independence - such as Presets, Audio Files, Layers, Layer Sets, etc.
With the first start of Independence you have to select your current Independence Basic Path folder.
From now on Independence will use this path for saving new files like Patches, Audio Files or
Presets.
If you should change the location of your „Independence Basic Path“ folder or the selected path
should not be valid anymore, you will get asked to define the new/correct path with the next start of
Independence.
To change the Independence Basic path manually just click on the „Select“ button. Now the browser
of your OS opens and you can select the new path where you installed, moved or copied the desired
„Independence Basic Path“ folder.
TIP: You do not have to save/copy all new Audio Data, Projects, Image Files, etc. into the
intended folders of the „Independence Basic Path“ folder. It is totally enough just to
link an alias of the files. Thereby you can easily link multiple internal and external
hard disks. Currently Independence supports up to 5 aliases successively.
Current RAM overview
Although computers become better and faster all the time, RAM is still a very valuable part.
This overview gives you a permanent summary of the current RAM usage of your Independence.
„Allocated RAM“ shows the maximum RAM usage of Independence during the complete session.
Use the “purge memory” button to remove any currently unused audio files from your RAM. This
function is recommended to make system resources available if you’ve removed or replaced existing
Project, Layer Sets or Layers during your current session.
„Used RAM“ is a permanent changing value that shows the exact amount of RAM Independence
currently uses.
There are multiple ways to optimize RAM usage of your computer. Therefore please read the
following part about the RF-HDD (Read From Hard Disk Drive) feature and the Auto-RAM-
Cleaner on page 41.
