Wood Pergola Assembly Manual Congratulations on purchasing your new Pergola. Thank you for your purchase and welcome to the YardCraft Family. This manual is designed to simplify the assembly process, however we recommend having an experienced carpenter involved in the project. Please read through the entire manual before starting! It took 2 men, approximately 6 hours using the tools shown. However, it may take you longer since it will be a new project for you.

Step:1 Wood Pergola Assembly Manual Step:2 Top Make Flush Here Bottom Locate the Post. Place an L Bracket on the bottom of the Post. Notice the top and bottom of the Post are different. Step:3 Make the L Bracket flush at the bottom and fasten to Post with (Four) 1 1/2” Black Head Screws through pre-drilled holes in the Bracket. Step:4 10’ 8” Turn the post around. Install the second bracket on the post as shown. (Two L Brackets per Post.
Step:7 Wood Pergola Assembly Manual Step:8 Short Inside Header Boards Align Here Outside Header Board splice Locate the Short Inside Header Boards and place one on each end of the Long Inside Header Board. Starting at the center, make the Header Boards flush at the notches. Fasten the Inside Header Boards to the Outside Header Boards with (Four) 2 1/2” Screws through pre-drilled holes. Make sure the second Outside Header Board is tight against the first Outside Header Board at the splice.
Step:13 Wood Pergola Assembly Manual Step:14 Fasten the opposite end of the Header Assembly, as shown in Steps 11 and 12. Lift the Post and Header Assembly to it’s upright Position. Step:15 Step:16 While holding the Post and Header Assembly upright, using your own 2x4’s, create a temporary X-Brace. Assemble the second Post and Header, as shown in Steps 1-15. Step:17 Step:18 Make Flush Here Measure the distance between the two Post and Header Assemblies at each end.
Wood Pergola Assembly Manual Step:20 Step:19 Top Rafter Boards Screw Locations Bottom Rafter Boards Locate the Bottom Rafter Boards and the Top Rafter Boards. Lay out on the floor as shown. Step:21 Screw Locations Now fasten through the Bottom Rafter Board into the Top Rafter Board with (two) 3” Screws through pre-drilled holes. Hold the Top Rafter Board onto the Bottom Rafter Board at the mark. Fasten using (two) 3” Screws through pre-drilled holes.
Step:25 Wood Pergola Assembly Manual Step:26 Lift the Rafter onto the Headers. Place into the notch on the Headers. Place the Rafter so the mark on the Rafter is flush with the outside of the Header. Attach the Rafter to the Header, on both sides of the Rafter, with (two) 3” Screws through pre-drilled holes. (One Screw on each side of the Rafter) Step:27 Step:28 Attach the opposite end of the Rafter to the Header, as shown in Steps 25 and 26.
Step:31 Wood Pergola Assembly Manual Step:32 Make flush and align here Install the next Brace at the Rafter location. Fasten with (Four) 3 1/2” Screws through pre-drilled holes. (Two into Rafter and two into Post. Step:33 Install all remaining Braces, as shown in steps 30 and 31. (Two Braces at each Post Location.) Step:34 Straight Cut 45° cut towards the outside Now install all remaining Rafters, as shown in Steps 25 and 26. Locate the Stringers. Place on top of the rafters.
Step:37 Wood Pergola Assembly Manual Step:38 Install all remaining stringers, as shown in Steps 34-36. This is how your assembly will look with all the Stringers installed. Step:39 Step:40 Measure each way from Post to Post. Adjust the Post to create equal distance both ways. Keeping the measurements from previous step, level each post both ways. Adjust the Bottom of the Post if necessary.
Step:43 Notch Wood Pergola Assembly Manual Step:44 Place the Post Skirt Piece With Notch against the post on the side with the L Bracket attached. Step:45 Screw Locations Fasten the Post Skirt Pieces together with (two) 2” Screws through pre-drilled holes at each corner. Work your way around the Post. Place the ones with notches at the two L Bracket Locations, and the ones without notches at the other two sides. Step:46 Install the Post Skirt Pieces at each Post Location, as shown in Steps 43-46.

E-Z Shade Canopy Assembly Manual Step: 2 Step: 1 Triangle Block End Rafter Locate the Triangle Block. Place at the center of the Rafter on the one end of the Pergola. Step: 3 Step: 4 Align Here Align the mark on the Triangle Block with the splice in the Rafter. Step: 5 Secure tight against the Rafter and up against the Stringers. Fasten to Rafter with (two) 2 1/2” Screws through pre-drilled holes.
Step: 7 E-Z Shade Canopy Assembly Manual Step: 8 Hold the 1x3 Guide Rail up against the bottom of the Rafters. Make flush with the outside of the first Rafter. While holding the 1x3 Guide Rail against the post, measure the distance from the Header to the 1x3 Guide Rail. Step: 9 Step: 10 Now measure at the opposite end of the 1x3 Guide Rail. Adjust the 1x3 Guide Rail to create the same measurement as in Step 8. Fasten 1x3 Guide Rail to the Rafter with (one) 2” Screws through pre-drilled hole.
E-Z Shade Canopy Assembly Manual Step: 14 Step: 13 Pre-drilled Hole Install the 1x3 Guide Rail on the opposite side of the Pergola, as shown on Steps 7-12. Locate the Mounting Brackets. Notice the pre-drilled hole in the Triangle Blocks. Step: 15 Step: 16 Notice the orientation of the Mounting Brackets. End Place the Mounting Bracket on the Triangle Block and fasten through the hole in the Mounting Bracket into the pre-drilled hole in the Triangle Block with (one) 2 1/4” S. S. Screws.
Step: 19 E-Z Shade Canopy Assembly Manual Step: 20 Slide the Main Beam into the remaining Mounting Brackets, as shown on Step 18. Using the Allen Wrench, tighten the Screw in the Mounting Bracket on all three Mounting Brackets. Step: 21 Step: 22 Canopy Arm Locate the Canopy Assembly. Starting with one end, lift the first Canopy Arm into place. U-Bracket Retaining Pin Slide the first Canopy Arm into the first U-Bracket on the Main Beam and align the holes.
Step: 25 E-Z Shade Canopy Assembly Manual Step: 26 After all the Canopy Arms are installed, Locate the Control Rod. Hook the Control Rod into the Eye Bolt. Turn the Eye Bolt to loosen it. Slide the Canopy across the Main Beam. 18 Slide the Canopy to your desired location and turn the Eye Bolt again to tighten. This will keep the Canopy from moving while in use.
