Tips for Successful Bulb Planting
Choose your location for planting carefully. Bulbs need
spring sun, so don’t plant where they will be shaded by
trees. Bulbs do best in well-drained soil with some organic
material and fertilizer mixed in.
The best time to plant bulbs is after the first frost in
your area. After digging hole to the recommended depth,
place bulb with pointed top up and root end down. Cover
with soil and add 3" of mulch to preserve moisture and
protect bulbs, then water well.
Refer to the planting directions of each bulb type for
exact planting depth and spacing, or contact your local
nursery for information. Generally, large bulbs can be
planted 6" apart and 8" deep. Smaller bulbs can be planted
3" apart and 5" deep.
