2 Quick Setup
From this section, you can instantly call up appropriate panel settings for the Song or Pattern mode of
the MOTIF XF instrument by clicking a convenient preset setup.
n The settings of the MOTIF XF instrument made via the operation here cannot be saved as an Editor file.
MIDI
The following setups are equivalent to those in Quick Setup in the Utility mode of the MOTIF XF.
1 Internal
This setup is useful when you use the sequencer function (Song or Pattern) on the MOTIF XF instrument
alone (without a computer).
2 SEQ to PC
This setup is useful when you transmit the Song or Pattern playback data to a connected computer and
record it to the DAW on the computer.
3 REC on PC
This setup is useful when you record your keyboard performance on the MOTIF XF to the DAW on the
connected computer.
4 ARP to PC
This setup is useful when you transmit the Arpeggio playback data on the MOTIF XF instrument to a
connected computer and record it to the DAW on the computer.
FW Monitor
The following setups are equivalent to the FW Monitor Setup in the Utility mode of the MOTIF XF.
5 St-Alone (stand alone)
This should be selected when you are using the MOTIF XF alone or are not using the DAW even with a
computer connected to the MOTIF XF via an IEEE1394 cable. When this is selected, the audio signal of the
MOTIF XF (only Parts which are set to “L&R” as the Output Select parameter) will be output directly via the
OUTPUT L/MONO and R jacks normally.
6 With PC
This should be selected when you are using the MOTIF XF as an audio device with the DAW. When this is
selected, the audio signal of the MOTIF XF (only Parts which are set to “L&R” as the Output Select
parameter) will be output to the DAW on a computer via an IEEE1394 cable, merged and mixed with the
DAW sound, returned back to the MOTIF XF, then output via the OUTPUT L/MONO and R jacks. Selecting
this allows you to apply Effects within the DAW to the MOTIF XF sound.
7 PC Drct (Direct Monitor)
This should be selected when recording your keyboard performance on the MOTIF XF instrument to the
DAW on the computer. The audio signal of the MOTIF XF (only Parts which are set to “FW1” –“FW14” or
“FW1&2” – “13&14” as the Output Select parameter) will be sent to DAW, while the audio signal also will be
output directly via the OUTPUT L/MONO and R jacks to monitor the sound without latency. The audio
signal from the DAW will be output via an IEEE1394 cable. Keep in mind that the Rec Monitor of the DAW
should be set to “off” in order to prevent “double” sound from occurring.
n MOTIF XF keeps the settings of the FW Monitor function after you’ve closed the MOTIF XF Editor. MOTIF XF
does not output sound to OUTPUT L/MONO, R even after you’ve closed the editor, or disconnected from the
computer with the “With PC” setting. Make sure to confirm the setting on the MOTIF XF itself after using the
editor in stand-alone mode.
