Dual-Layer DVD Recorders with Hard Disk Drive
Now it’s easier than ever to
record your favorite television
programming directly to DVD.
The DVR-533H (80GB) and
DVR-633H (160GB) recorders
combine hard drive technology
with software and program guide upgrades to make the process of creating a DVD easy. They allow you to find all of your
favorite TV shows through the TV Guide onscreen program guide; store programming on a hard drive; burn to DVD; and
create home movies on DVD through the DV camera input on the front panel. For added convenience, Pioneer has creat-
ed a ‘Help’ menu on screen for easy set up and use of the DVD recorder. The ‘Help’ button is located right on the remote
control and offers information about what is currently scheduled for recording, how much space is available on the hard
drive, and general operational instructions.
Built-in 80GB or
160GB Hard Disk Drive
The built-in 80GB (DVR-533H) or 160GB
(DVR-633H) hard disk drive lets you record
lots of home movies and TV shows for tem-
porary storage. Once theyre recorded you
can watch them whenever you want, edit
them, delete them, or burn them to DVD.
The DVR-533H can hold up to 170 hours of
content (recorded at lowest video quality -
SEP mode). The DVR-633H can hold double
that, or up to 340hours in SEP mode.
When burning your recorded content to
DVD from the hard disk drive, an hour-long
program recorded in SEP (lowest video qual-
ity) mode takes less than 30 seconds to
burn — that’s approximately 120x speed.
Pioneers exclusive Disc Backup lets you
make a direct file transfer of your home-
movie DVD back to the hard drive, and from
that make as many copies of your home
movie as you want, all at blazing speed. This
is great for videophiles who do their edit-
ing on their home computer and burn their
material to DVD that way. And unlike other
HDD-to-DVD recorders, the DVR-533H/633H
don’t recompress the video to another for-
mat during the process. Instead, they make
a perfect copy that is bit-for-bit identical to
the original, every time.
HELP Button
Here’s another big ease of use” feature. Let’s
say you’re about to dub a home movie to
the recorder, and you can’t figure out what
the next step is… So Pioneer put a HELP
button right on the remote — it’s for when
you get stuck. Pressing HELP doesn’t have
you start over again; instead, it makes a
recommendation on what to do next.
Sometimes it will alert you if your remaining
disk space is limited, or offer a hint about
watching a show you’ve recorded.
Free Interactive Program Guide
They include an 8-day Electronic Program
Guide (EPG) from TV Guide thats incredibly
easy to use. Just find your favorite programs
and select them for recording, using the
easy on-screen EPG and your remote. And
heres the best part: theres no fee for this
valuable service! Pioneer covers the usual
program fee; you pay nothing up front and
theres no monthly charge.
Front DV Input
Front or i-LINK (or DV or IEEE1394) interface
lets you transfer your DV movies smoothly
to the hard disk drive. Just connect your
camcorder’s DV output the DV input on the
unit’s front panel to and begin.
You can now use the recorder’s remote to
control key camcorder functions (Forward,
Reverse, etc.) and easily find the scenes you
want to transfer.
i-LINK is not only a smart connection; it
also lets you dub your DV movies without
losing quality by keeping them in the
digital domain during transfer.
They can control most brands of DV cam-
corders, unlike many other DVD recorders
that either don’t offer i-LINK or don’t allow
camcorder control via the DVD recorder.
And if your camcorder is analog, inputs
for composite, S-Video and stereo audio are
also provided for dubbing them to DVD.

What Is A DualDisc?: DualDisc has both a CD player side and a DVD side, allowing artists
to create in exciting new ways using audio, video and computer content - all on a single
two-sided disc. What’s on it? One side is the full-length CD audio album. The other side
offers DVD content. This may include enhanced album audio, 5.1 surround sound, music
videos, artist interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, documentary films, photo galleries,
lyrics, computer-ready digital song files, and Web links. It all depends on the artist.
