uses REAC (Roland Ethernet Audio Communication)
technology and standard Cat5e cable for up to 48 channels of 24bit digital
audio from remote-controlled mic preamps on stage to the mixing console.
Supports up to 24 returns to stage. The M-400 V-Mixer features 25x 100mm
motorized, touch-sensitive faders, a bright 800x480 color screen, dedicated
effects knobs for EQ, pan and gain, and fully-recallable scene settings.

MIXERS Audio mixing consoles blend multiple
sound sources together into a single program.
Mixers may be general purpose, or offer spe-
cialized features for theatre, live music, studio
recording, field recording, or multi-media produc-
tions. Most are designed for live control but there are
also “auto-mixers” designed to provide unattended automatic microphone
mixing. There are also multi-media mixers that control video sources as
well as audio, making them ideal for meetings or classroom presentations.
Besides creating a main program output, mixers may also simultane-
ously create auxilliary mixes for musician monitors, special effects devices,
broadcasters, or telephone conferencing.
Choosing a mixer requires thinking about the number of sources you will
have, the type of input sources, any unique outputs that might be required,
and the level of signal processing desired. Most mixers provide some form
of tone control equalization, and many now also offer advanced processing
of dynamics, delays, reverberation, and digital special effects.
Mixers may be all analog devices, or be fully digital with a choice of analog
or digital inputs and outputs. Digital mixers use digital signal processing
(DSP) and generally offer a greater range and abundance of processing
tools than analog consoles at similar price points. Digital consoles may
offer direct digital interface to, or control of digital audio workstation
platforms for recording, and many have motorized faders which can move
under automated computer control. One of the most exciting aspects of
digital mixers is the capability of some to use lightweight digital network
cable or fiber to connect the microphone to the mixer. This “digital snake”
simplifies installation and permits easy mobility without the expense and
bulk of analog snake cable systems.
