Near Field Communications
NFC/HF RFID is a short-range wireless connectivity technology standard that enables secure transaction between
a reader and a contactless smart card. The technology is based on ISO/IEC 14443 type A and B (proximity), Felica
and ISO/IEC 15693 (vicinity) standards, using the HF 13.56 MHz unlicensed band. The ET5X supports three
operating modes:
• Reader mode
• Peer-to-Peer communication
• Card Emulation mode.
Using NFC, the ET5X can:
• Read contactless cards such as contactless tickets, NFC labels, HF tokens or standard smart cards.
• Read and write information to contactless cards such as SmartPosters and tickets, as well as devices with
NFC interface such as vending machines.
• Read information from supported medical sensors.
• Pair with supported Bluetooth devices such as printers and headsets.
• Exchange data with another NFC device.
• Emulate contactless card such as ticket or V-card.
The ET5X NFC antenna is uniquely positioned to read NFC cards from the front of the device.
Reading NFC Cards and RFID Tags
The ET5X supports reading NFC cards and RFID tags. The NFC antenna is located on the back of the device
under the NFC logo.
NOTE See Technical Specifications for information on NFC card support.
