8.2. Connecting to the Host Computer
Unpack the Host Computer and the Monitor and place them in approximately their permanent location. If a
UPS has been supplied, place the UPS next to the Computer. Ensure that there is a suitable power outlet in the
vicinity of the location, and connect the UPS to this output. Attach the Monitor Cable, Keyboard, Mouse and
the Power Cable to the Computer, and connect the Power Cable plug to the output of the UPS.
Connect the 3-pin RS-485 connector on the Network Cable to the RS-485 Interface Card socket at the back of
the Computer, and connect the DB-9 connector at the other end of the cable to the PC Terminator Box. The use
of a Terminator Box is not necessary, but is highly recommended so as to enable relocation of the Computer
without having to also relocate the RS-485 line that runs to the networked devices. In the event that the PC
Terminator Box is not used, the 3-pin RS-485 connector can be spliced directly to the RS-432 network line,
and the DB-9 connector may be discarded.
