INSTALLATION AND ADJUSTMENT OF RAM
®
MOUNT ACCESSORIES
In order to address many specic mounting applications, RAM
®
Mounts has
designed a wide variety of accessories, which are available from Wood’s
Powr-Grip
®
, RAM
®
Mounts and other dealers. The following directions
cover basic assembly and use of RAM
®
extension arms, object holders and
other accessories in conjunction with Wood’s Powr-Grip
®
vacuum cups. For
additional information, please contact our Customer Service department or
another authorized RAM
®
Mounts dealer.
Select a vacuum cup and mounting accessories that are appropriate for your
application and assemble them as shown in the illustrations. The Maximum
Load Capacity of the vacuum cup must be appropriate for the weight of your
object and its distance from the center of the pad surface when mounted on
the accessories you have selected (see SPECIFICATIONS). CAUTION: It may
be desirable to install a separate tether between the mounted object and the
mounting surface, to prevent the loss of the object in the event of a vacuum
cup failure.
In the process of assembling the mounting accessories on the vacuum
cup, be sure to observe the following directions as they are relevant to your
application:
Double Socket Arms
Loosen the knob and/or compress the spring as necessary to slide a ball
into a socket opening on the Double Socket Arm. Repeat this step for each
ball, whether located on the vacuum pad, object holder or another accessory
(see illustration). After positioning the arm and accessories in the desired
orientation, tighten the knob securely to hold the mounting assembly in
position.
Flexible Arms
¼-20 x ¼" NPS Adapters or other accessories may be required to attach a
Flexible Arm to a vacuum cup or to an object holder (see illustration). You may
use an adapter to attach the arm to any vacuum cup equipped with a ¼-20
threaded stud, tap or female insert. Attaching a second adapter to the other
end of the arm provides a convenient ¼-20 threaded stud or female tting,
which is compatible with many RAM
®
Mount holders and other accessories.
After installing the arm and accessories, grasp the arm near the vacuum cup
and hold it rmly while positioning the mounting assembly as desired.
¼-20 x ¼" NPS Adapters
To install a ¼-20 x ¼" NPS Adapter, carefully screw the adapter clockwise onto
a tting with corresponding threads. The adapter can attach to male threads
when used by itself or to female threads, by adding the screw supplied. Use a
wrench to tighten the threads securely together. A liquid thread-locker may be
used for additional security.
CAUTION: Although the Maximum Load Capacity of a vacuum cup may
be sufcient for the weight of the object you are mounting, this does not
guarantee that your object will remain stable in all circumstances. Depending
on the load weight, orientation of the mounting assembly and other factors, it
is possible for balls to slip in their sockets, for exible arms to bend, and for
threaded ttings to unthread, despite being assembled correctly. Make sure
to test the stability of a mounted object before allowing the mounting assembly
to support it without assistance. Otherwise, inadvertent movement of the
mounting assembly could result in damage to the object. Most problems
can be solved by assembling and/or positioning the mounting assembly in a
different orientation. If the problem persists, contact our Customer Service
department or an authorized dealer for assistance.
