Technical Specifications
Uncoated, Weathered Wood – Before coating,
weathered wood must be thoroughly cleaned to remove
ground-in dirt, mildew, mold and algae stains, gray, UV-
damaged wood fibers and any other surface
contaminants. According to label guidelines, select the
appropriate product for your particular wood type, either
Wolman DeckBrite powder concentrate or Deck & Fence
Brightener liquid concentrate. Follow usage directions on
label, then conduct Splash Test again.
Previously Coated, Weathered Wood – Previous
coatings should be removed before application of this
product. If a pigmented oil or latex coating exists, use
Wolman DeckStrip
®
Stain & Finish Remover according to
label directions to prepare the surface. Acrylic coatings
may require a paint stripper. If coated with a clear sealer
or lightly pigmented finish and little to no pigment remains,
Wolman DeckBrite powder concentrate or Deck & Fence
Brightener liquid concentrate may be used to restore the
surface and remove residual coating/water repellency.
Based on label guidelines, select the appropriate wood
cleaner for your particular wood type.
After cleaning, stripping or power-washing, wait at least 24
hours before applying this product to allow the water-
soaked wood to dry out thoroughly. Oil-base finishes will
not properly penetrate wood that is water-saturated.
Recommended Application Method
Homeowner/DIY’er:
HVLP or Pump Style Sprayer – The Wolman
®
BackSaver
®
2
Gallon Sprayer is recommended. Back-brush along grain any
drips, runs, uneven coverage or surface puddles.
Brush – Natural or synthetic bristle. Always work from end
to end on a few boards at a time, and maintain a wet edge.
Stain/Paint Pad – Short nap style.
Professional Contractor:
Airless Sprayer – Use a .011 inch tip and 100 mesh filter
screen; 250-500 PSI. Adjust pressure when necessary to
minimize over-spray and fogging. For best results, back-
brush along grain any drips, runs, uneven coverage or
surface puddles.
Use Caution if Spraying: Do not over-saturate surface with
product or allow to puddle to prevent shiners, tackiness,
excessive drying time or uneven appearance when dry.
Application Instructions
Before You Start – Prior to project start date, perform a trial
brush-out in several inconspicuous areas to ensure the desired
color is achieved. (Color appearance will vary depending on
wood species, age and surface porosity). Replace rotted,
extremely weathered or warped boards. Make sure entire wood
surface is completely dry and free of dust, dirt and debris.
Cover all surrounding areas not intended to be coated.
Thoroughly rinse these areas before and after application.
Intermix multiple gallons of the same product in a separate
container to ensure a uniform color. Mix thoroughly before use
and stir occasionally during application. Do not tint, dilute or
mix this product with any other product.
Weather Conditions – Apply when outside temperature is
between
50
°
F
and
90
°
F
and when no precipitation is expected
for 24 hours. DO NOT apply to wood that is hot to the touch or
in direct sunlight to prevent premature evaporation.
Recommended Number of Coats –
Horizontal Surfaces: APPLY ONE (1) LIBERAL,
UNIFORM
COAT ON DECKS AND OTHER HORIZONTAL
SURFACES.
Thoroughly coat all exposed surfaces until wood will not
absorb additional product, and avoid puddling. Only if wood
is highly porous is a second coat recommended. To test
for this condition, check the penetration rate of the first 30 sq.
ft. area coated. If the coating is dry to the touch in 15 minutes
or less, then another light coat may be applied no later than
one hour after first coat. Only half the amount is necessary
for the second coat.
Vertical Surfaces: APPLY TWO (2) WET-ON-WET COATS
ON SHAKE, SHINGLE OR LAP SIDING, ROOFING,
FENCING AND OTHER VERTICAL SURFACES. Do not
allow product to dry fully between coats. Apply second coat
within 6 hours of the first coat.
CAUTION: BARE WOOD OR COATED SURFACES CAN
BECOME SLIPPERY WHEN WET. Use caution when walking
on wet surfaces.
Coverage Rate – Actual coverage will vary depending on
wood age and species, surface porosity, method of application.
ROUGH WOOD: Approx. 150-200 sq. ft. / gallon
SMOOTH WOOD: Approx. 200-300 sq. ft. / gallon
If surface requires two coats, first coat will cover approximately
150-200 sq. ft./gal, second coat will cover approximately 200-
300 sq. ft. / gal.
Dry Time – At
75
°
F,
65% relative humidity:
Vertical Surface Horizontal Surface
FIRST COAT: 6-8 hours 2-6 hours
SECOND COAT: 24 hours 10-18 hours
Because temperatures and humidity fluctuate, allow a
minimum 24–48 hours before allowing seating or foot traffic
on decks, docks, boardwalks, outdoor furniture or play
equipment. Wait 72 hours to reposition furniture.
Clean Up – Wipe up wet over-spray, coating spatters or spills
immediately with soap and warm water before they dry. If
dried, use lacquer thinner or paint stripper. Clean tools and
equipment immediately after use with soap and warm water or
mineral spirits; dried product will require mineral spirits.

necessary grounding and bonding. Keep this product
separate from other pesticides during storage to prevent
cross contamination of other pesticides, fertilizers, food and
feed. Remove sources of ignition if this product is released
or spilled. Confine area of spill and avoid breathing vapors.
