Customizing your Pen
Language Support
The QuickLink Pen can work with a number of languages.
The Pen Customization Wizard guides you through the
process of adding language support to your Pen and
selecting default interface and scanning languages.
Interface Languages
The interface language is the language in which menu
options and messages are displayed. Interface language
components do not require a lot of the Pen’s flash memory,
so you can install as many as you like.
Scanning Languages
The scanning language is the language that the Pen is set to
recognize when scanning. You can scan in any language for
which a viewing language component is installed on your
Pen. The viewing language component contains information
about the character set of the language, so that the Pen can
recognize and display them. The same viewing language
component is used by languages that use the same character
set. For example, there is a single viewing language compo-
nent for Western European languages (English, French, etc.).
Spellers
A speller is a linguistic program that optimizes OCR in a
particular language by correcting the spelling of scanned
text. Spellers can recognize hyphenated words and charac-
ters that are hard for the OCR to interpret.
Only some of the Pen’s scanning languages have spellers. If
you plan to scan in any of these languages, you should load
its speller onto your Pen. Spellers use a fair amount of the
Pen’s flash memory, so only load spellers for languages in
which you expect to scan.
