Setting up the Desktop
5. Wait until the Reading message disappears before
scanning again. Accuracy is better if the Pen finishes
processing the first line before it begins processing the
second.
Setting Up the Desktop
While the Pen can be used as a stand-alone device, having
the Desktop up and running on your computer enables you
to scan directly to the computer, to transfer information
between the Pen and the computer, and to use the computer
to customize and update your Pen. For additional informa-
tion about the QuickLink Desktop application, see Part 3 of
this manual (p. 94).
Installing the Desktop
To install the QuickLink Desktop:
1. Close any applications that are running on your
computer. It is especially important to close
applications that use the serial port of your computer,
like PDAs or digital camera applications. (Check for
their icons in the System Tray.)
2. If you are working on Windows NT, log on as an NT
administrator, and make sure you are not on a network.
3. Insert the QuickLink CD-ROM into the CD drive of
your computer. The CD-ROM’s opening screen
appears.
Note: If the opening screen does not appear automatically,
you can open it by doing the following:
• Click the Windows Start button and select Run.
• Type x: \setup.exe (where x is your CD-ROM drive),
then click OK.
