The dictionary entries contain various elements.
1. Headword
The selected word or derivative of the selected word.
Includes headwords made up of more than one word.
The headword ‘hello’
The compound headword 'cross-country skiing'
2. Homonyms
Two or more words which are spelled the same but
have different meanings.
The Alternative Entries list for the homonym ‘desert’
3. Phonetics
The phonetic transcription of the headword, seen
when dictionary entries are viewed in complete form.
