Staticelectricityprevention
Staticelectricity,althoughharmlesstoyou,canseriouslydamagecomputercomponentsandoptions.
Improperhandlingofstatic-sensitivepartscancausedamagetothepart.Whenyouunpackanoptionor
aCRU,donotopenthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthepartuntiltheinstructionsdirectyou
toinstallthepart.
WhenyouhandleoptionsorCRUs,orperformanyworkinsidethecomputer,takethefollowingprecautions
toavoidstatic-electricitydamage:
•Limityourmovement.Movementcancausestaticelectricitytobuilduparoundyou.
•Alwayshandlecomponentscarefully.Handleadapters,memorymodules,andothercircuitboardsbythe
edges.Nevertouchexposedcircuitry.
•Preventothersfromtouchingcomponents.
•Whenyouinstallastatic-sensitiveoptionorCRU,touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthe
parttoametalexpansion-slotcoverorotherunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthecomputerforatleasttwo
seconds.Thisreducesstaticelectricityinthepackageandyourbody.
•Whenpossible,removethestatic-sensitivepartfromthestatic-protectivepackageandinstallthepart
withoutsettingitdown.Whenthisisnotpossible,placethestatic-protectivepackageonasmooth,
levelsurfaceandplacethepartonthepackage.
•Donotplacethepartonthecomputercoverorothermetalsurface.
Disablingthebuilt-inbattery
Beforereplacinganyhardwarecomponentexcepttheremovablebattery,ensurethatyouhavedisabledthe
built-inbatterybydoingthefollowing:
1.Turnoffyourcomputeranddisconnecttheacpoweradapterandallcablesfromthecomputer.
2.Turnonyourcomputer.WhentheThinkPadlogoisdisplayed,immediatelypressF1toenterThinkPad
Setup.
3.SelectConfig➙Power.ThePowersubmenuisdisplayed.
4.SelectDisablebuilt-inbatteryandpressEnter.
