Thischapterprovidesinformationabouthowtoprotecttheinformationstoredonyourtablet.
Usingpasswords
Byusingpasswords,youcanhelppreventyourcomputerfrombeingusedbyothers.Onceyouseta
password,apromptisdisplayedonthescreeneachtimeyouturnonthecomputer.Enteryourpasswordat
theprompt.Youcannotusethecomputerunlessyoutypethecorrectpassword.
Passwordsandsleepmode
IfyouhavesetaWindowspasswordandyouputyourcomputerintosleepmode,youwillbeprompted
toenterthepasswordwhenresumingoperation.
IfyouuseyouremailaddressasauseraccounttosignintoWindows,enteryouremailpasswordwhen
resumingoperation.
Supervisorpassword
WhenyoutrytostarttheThinkPadSetup,ifthisiconisdisplayed,typeasupervisorpassword.
ThesupervisorpasswordprotectsthesysteminformationstoredinThinkPadSetup.Withoutit,noonecan
changethecongurationofthecomputer.Itprovidesthefollowingsecurityfeatures:
Note:Ifyouhavesetasupervisorpassword,theThinkPadSetupprogrammenuwillbedisplayedafteryou
enterthepassword.YoucanstartThinkPadSetupbypressingEnterontheonscreenkeyboardinstead
ofenteringthesupervisorpassword.However,youcannotchangetheparametersthatareprotected
bythesupervisorpassword.
Note:ThesystemadministratorcansetthesamesupervisorpasswordonmanyThinkPadnotebook
computerstomakeadministrationeasier.
Setting,changing,orremovingasupervisorpassword
Onlyasystemadministratorcanset,change,orremoveasupervisorpassword.
Toset,change,orremoveasupervisorpassword,dothefollowing:
1.Printtheseinstructions.
2.Saveallopenles,andexitallapplications.
3.Turnyourcomputeroffandthenturnitonagain.
4.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressthepowerbuttonandthevolumeupbuttontogether.The
ThinkPadSetupprogrammainmenuopens.
5.TapSecurity,usingthecursordirectionalkeystomovedownthemenu.
6.TapPassword.
7.TapSupervisorPassword.
8.Awindowopens,promptingyoutoenteranewpassword.Dependingonyourneeds,dooneofthe
