Using the Enterprise Edition
Using the Enterprise Edition
"
Enterprise Edition only.
With the Enterprise Edition of Wise for Windows Installer, you can develop consistent,
accurate, and high quality installations based on corporate standards. The Enterprise
Edition ensures that you use the correct versions of resources, such as files and registry
keys, that are shared across multiple applications. Example: A developer who adds or
updates a .DLL in an installation can instantly view a list of other applications that use
that .DLL and the versions used. The developer can use this information to ensure that
the new application uses the correct version of the .DLL and therefore will not break
existing applications.
The Enterprise Edition lets you share commonly used templates, dialog themes,
translations, and other installation resources within a single development team or
among multiple development teams. This lets developers throughout the organization
create installations with common settings and a consistent look and feel. See Sharing
Installation Resources.
The Enterprise Edition also helps organizations that use Wise Package Studio. It
eliminates the need to repackage internally developed applications, because the
organization’s developers can create installations that adhere to corporate standards. It
also reduces rework of internally developed installations by the development team and
reduces end-user downtime, because the developers who create installations can be
sure to use the correct versions of files and other resources before giving installations to
the IT deployment team. See Sharing the Software Manager Database With Wise
Package Studio in the Software Manager Help.

Sharing Installation Resources
" Enterprise Edition only.
A key feature of the Enterprise Edition is the ability to develop and enforce standards for
how installations are created. You enforce standards by storing all installation-related
resources in a common location and making sure all developers use those resources in
their installations.
In Wise Options, you can specify the directories that contain shared resources you will
use in installations. See Setting Repository Options on page 54.
You can share the following resources:
! Component rules ensure that every installation will be organized the same way,
which greatly simplifies the management of multiple product installations.
! Custom actions, such as .DLL files, JScript files, and VBScript files, that can be
added to installations.
! Installation templates, dialogs, dialog themes, languages, and resources,
such as bitmaps and icons, that are used in installations. Create installations with
common settings and a consistent look and feel.
