2.17 OPERATION
Cable Mast Assembly
Insert the upper cable mast (2) into the
lower cable mast (3) align the bolt holes
and insert and tighten the bolt (3). Note that
the “pig tail” hook on the upper cable mast
should be on the underside when correctly
assembled. Using suitable lifting equipment
raise the cable mast and insert into the
retaining tube on the winch bracket, the slot
cut into the lower cable mast should drop
over the cross piece welded inside the tube.
The cable section (21) from the shovel
should be passed through the hook on the
lower mast section then up and around
cross shaft welded to the upper section
before dropping back down to ground level.
At ground level withdraw the split pin (13A)
from the one of the two pulley assemblies,
remove the pin (14A) and place the pulley
(11A) over the cable as illustrated. Refit the
block (12A) over the pulley (11A) and hook
the sheave weight (15) onto the lower
pulley.
Repeat the operation on what will be the upper fixed pulley (11-14) and using the lifting
equipment hook the upper pulley assembly securely onto the upper mast “pig tail hook”.
Pull the shovel back a short distance from the hopper and wind any excess cable around the
handles of the shovel in the process raising the lower pulley and weight assembly clear of the
ground. Continue to pull back the shovel to the extent of the working radius making sure the
lower pulley & weight does not foul the upper fixed pulley.
With the engine running operate the switch on the dragline shovel and guide the shovel up to
the hopper. Make sure that the lower pulley & weight does not touch the ground. In the event
that they do reduce the working radius and increase or decrease the amount of cable wound
around the shovel handles.
