2.16 OPERATION
Dragline Winch Assembly
Using suitable lifting equipment lift the
winch bracket assembly (1) onto the
water tank supports in front of the
water tank, take care not to damage
the water tank scale in the process.
Align the four slots in the base of the
bracket with the slots in the water tank
supports and insert the four setscrews
provided (2). Finger tighten the nuts,
check that the winch assembly does
not foul the discharge pipe or tank and
fully tighten the setscrews.
Secure the end of the cable (3), which
exits below the water tank support to
the side of the winch bracket using the
“top hat bracket” (4) and the
setscrews (5 & 6). Unwind sufficient
cable (7) from the shovel handles and
join the two cable sections together.
Remove the cover (8), clean the area
around the hose connections on top of
the winch motor and the ends of the two hydraulic hoses (not illustrated) carefully remove the
hose and motor blanking plugs and attach the hoses to the motor. Note: the hose ends and
motor connections are colour coded to aid correct connection. Refit the cover (8) using the
setscrews (9).
In the event that the colour coding is missing from the hose ends and motor connections the
hoses should be connected as follows. The LH hose from the control block, which exits the
mixer frame above the engine is connected to the motor connection nearest the hopper, (LH
when viewed from the body end of the winch motor) see page E-2B of the Parts & Operators
Handbook. The RH hose is connected to the motor connection nearest the water tank
Unclip the end of the wire rope (10) from the roller on the winch bracket and wearing suitable
hand protection pull out the rope unwinding it from the rope drum as the drum rotates, unwind
sufficient rope and connect to the dragline shovel using the “U” bolt (11).
