Chapter 1: Utilities and Security
ControlBBanel
$ US
The only thing worse than spam on your personal computer is spam
in your hand. This simple and useful toolkit allows you to control your
BlackBerry apps and consult a banel, I mean a panel, of information
about the device.
Under Info, you can quickly learn the following important information:
The percentage of charge remaining in the BlackBerry’s battery.
The unique PIN that identifies your phone and can be used in
PIN-to-PIN messaging.
The amount of available space for additional apps and the
amount of space free on the media card in your phone.
The operating system version in use on your BlackBerry.
Information about the type of cellular network your phone is
using as well as the strength of the signal it’s getting.
That’s a lot of detail right there in one place. But ControlBBanel goes
further.
Click Apps to see a full listing of all the applications loaded on your
phone. Press the Menu button on your phone and you can get details
about the program including the name of its maker, the amount of
memory it occupies, the version installed, and the date you put it on
your BlackBerry. And if you are no longer in need of the program, you
can delete it with a click.
There’s also a panel called R. Apps (meaning Running Apps). This
sorts out just those applications that are currently demanding the
attention of your BlackBerry. Again, you can ask for details and you
can delete the apps if you want.
