Chapter 1: Utilities and Security
Find My Phone
$ US
My phone sometimes ends up under a stack of papers. My wife’s?
Well, let’s just say we find it in the last place we look (and the last
place we’d expect it to be).
Most of the time you can find your phone simply by calling its number.
But sometimes it’s hidden beneath the sofa cushions. Enter Find My
Phone. I like this one because it is very straightforward in setup and
it makes a lot of noise and sets off lights — it’s like a police cruiser in
your living room. The app includes a dozen variations on the alerts it
can sound.
The app will override vibrate mode. The only thing Find My Phone
(and other similar products) cannot do is set off the alarms if your
phone is turned off. (One solution to that: make sure you enable the
Auto On/Off feature in Options so that the phone will turn itself on
at a time you select; wait until the time arrives and then use Find My
Phone to retrieve it.)
The alarm can be triggered by these methods: by calling it three times
within 60 seconds (you can allow any caller to do this or set as many
as three numbers that are permitted to set off the alarm), or by sending
an e-mail or an SMS text message that includes whatever pass phrase
you choose. As delivered, you phone will respond to Find My Phone.
