CropIt
$ US
Sometimes it is truly a wonder to find a tool that does just one thing,
but does it so well you wonder how you ever lived without it. Such
is the case for CropIt, which works with any photos you have taken
using your BlackBerry device’s built-in camera or any photo you
have downloaded to the phone’s memory. Use its facilities to locate
an image, then set an anchor point in one corner and another in the
opposite corner . . . and then crop it.
Why do you need this?
Because almost every photo includes extraneous material, or could
benefit from being reshaped. And there is no law that says a picture
has to be vertical or horizontal; depending on the model of BlackBerry
you use, that’s what you’ll get. With CropIt you can make a vertical
into a horizontal or the other way around, or you can create a square
image that may work best as a background for your home screen.
The simple app has just a few customization options. You can choose
to retrieve from or to the device memory or the media card, and you
can choose to save the altered image as a JPEG or a PNG file. In gen-
eral I recommend using JPEG, which is a sophisticated, compressed
image format that can be read by most other phones and computers.
PNG is similar to the GIF format, yielding smaller but less-detailed
images than JPEG.
How to get it
