Chapter 1: Utilities and Security
Is your BlackBerry still running an app you thought you had deleted?
(Sometimes free trials of apps will linger long after you have decided
not to pay for a license.) With the click of your action key you can take
it away. Is an app you want to run refusing to cooperate? From What’s
Running you can attempt to force it to start without having to go to
the bother of restarting your phone.
Users have reported detecting apps that they were sure they had unin-
stalled, but that remained invisibly loaded and running. Apps and free
trials can create hidden apps that stay on the phone after deletion and
start automatically every time you reset.
You can also force the deletion of unwanted features of the operating
system that are eating up storage space and sometimes demanding
the attention of your BlackBerry’s processor. These might include for-
eign language modules and sample images. Be very careful with what
you delete here, though; you might want to consult with the customer
service department of your cellphone provider or with RIM itself
before deleting apps you do not fully understand.
