Chapter 1: Utilities and Security
If you plan on doing any editing of the image, the best way to work
is to immediately save the JPG as a TIF file, which prevents any fur-
ther compression of detail. Once you are through with any work in
PhotoShop or other digital editors, you can make a final copy in any
format you choose.
You might want to use the Save to Media Card if you are roaming and
don’t want to pay data charges. You can send them as e-mails when
you return or you can connect your BlackBerry to a computer using
the USB cable and transfer the images that way.
This is a very easy, very efficient way to make a copy of the image
you see on the screen of your BlackBerry. You can use the captures
in designing instructions for others or to show off the features of your
mobile device to others.
The one thing you can’t do is violate the app maker’s copyright. It’s
fair use to publish a few images for editorial purposes — a review or
a guide — but you will need permission if you want to incorporate an
image in a non-editorial product, like an app of your own.
Best features
Simple and foolproof, the image you get is as good as what you see on
the screen of your BlackBerry.
Worst features
The product would be even better if it offered an option to save or
send an uncompressed TIFF file, even though this would be consider-
ably larger than the JPG format.
How to get it
Available from BlackBerry App World and from third-party sites such
as Crackberry. Virtual Views Mobile Software. www.virtualviews.com.
