2. Click New Answer File. When asked if you want to open a Windows image le,
click Yes. Navigate to the install.wim le. Select the image for which you want
to create an answer le. Most of the time this will be install.wim.
3. Click Yes when prompted to create a catalog le. This step takes several minutes.
4. Right-click on a component and then click on Add Setting to Pass. Press F1 to
learn more about the settings available for a specic component.
5. When you have nished conguring all necessary components, click on the
Validate Answer File to perform a check and then save the answer le as
autounattend.xml. This is the le name that the Windows setup routine auto-
matically looks for when you perform an installation.
One could write a whole book detailing all the possible settings to congure for
an unattended installation le. Finding all the settings is primarily a matter of navi-
gating through each of the items in the Windows Image section and conguring an
appropriate setting. Figure 1-5 shows an answer le conguration where the DHCP
server and tools will automatically be installed. This unattended installation le
must be located under the folder you congured for WDS.
